Low-frequency excitations and their localization properties in glasses

open access: yesCondensed Matter Physics, 2019
Besides the dynamical slowing down signaled by an enormous increase of the viscosity approaching the glass transition, structural glasses show interesting anomalous thermodynamic features at low temperatures that hint at peculiar deviations from Debye's ...

Suppression of lung adenocarcinoma migration through organelle alkalization by human lactoferrin – albumin fusion

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This paper reveals how human lactoferrin–albumin fusion (hLF‐HSA) potently suppresses lung adenocarcinoma cell migration. hLF‐HSA upregulates NHE7, leading to Golgi alkalization, disruption of the Golgi secretome, downregulation of MMP1, and reversal of EMT. These findings suggest a novel Golgi‐targeting strategy to suppress cancer cell migration.

Gauge Theories, Spin Glasses and Real Glasses

open access: yes, 1994
In this talk I will show that usual spin glasses are a peculiar kind of Abelian gauge theory. I will shortly review the techniques used to study them. At the end I will consider more general models (e.g. spin glasses based on non Abelian gauge group) and

Optimizing photoactivation of PA‐mCherry for optical pooled CRISPR screens

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Photoactivatable PA‐mCherry finds widespread use to optically tag individual cells. However, confocal 405 nm UV laser‐scanning (normal scan) is much less efficient than widefield UV illumination, limiting the use of PA‐mCherry on confocal instruments. We remedy this limitation by reporting that rapid and repeated confocal scanning with a low‐intensity,

Characterization of fullerenes thin film on glasses by UV/VIS/NIR and opto-magnetic imaging spectroscopy [PDF]

open access: yesFME Transactions, 2014
UV/VIS spectroscopic characterization of glasses is a part of the standard procedure. The reasons to do it is to ensure UV eye protection and characterization of material transparency.

A ‘judgement of the eye’? The way(s) the world is perceived in Bolesław Prus’s prose works

open access: yesNapis, 2022
The article is an attempt to analyse and interpret the visual aspect of the work of Prus, and especially the impact of the writer’s diseases (including a deepening vision defect, agoraphobia) on the ability to perceive reality and the creation of the ...

RoundMi: A quantitative method to analyze mitochondrial morphology in mitotic cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
RoundMi is a workflow for rapid analysis of mitochondrial morphology in mitotic cells. By combining adaptive preprocessing with automated segmentation and quantification, it enables accurate measurements from single focal plane images, reducing acquisition time and computational demands while remaining compatible with high‐throughput fixed and live ...

Moment-Preserving Theory of Vibrational Dynamics of Topologically Disordered Systems

open access: yesFrontiers in Physics, 2017
We investigate a class of simple mass-spring models for the vibrational dynamics of topologically disordered solids. The dynamical matrix of these systems corresponds to the Euclidean-Random-Matrix (ERM) scheme.

Risk Prediction Models for Recurrence After Curative Treatment of Early‐Stage or Locally Advanced Lung Cancer: A Systematic Review

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
This systematic review synthesizes prognostic models for survival and recurrence in resected non‐small cell lung cancer. While many models demonstrate moderate to good discrimination, few are externally validated and reporting quality is variable, limiting clinical applicability and highlighting the need for robust, transparent model development ...

The controlled vitrification/crystallisation process applied

open access: yesBoletín de la Sociedad Española de Cerámica y Vidrio, 2000
The glass-ceramic process, as well as the usual processing of ceramic and vitreous materials, is being investigated as a promising way for isolation and recycling of both mineral wastes (debris and mineral residues, clearings in public works) and ...
