Optical Spectroscopy to Characterize Advanced Metal–Sulfur Battery Materials and Reveal Mechanistic Insights: A Review

open access: yesBatteries &Supercaps, Volume 9, Issue 5, May 2026.
Metal–sulfur (M–S) batteries are a promising technology due to their cost‐effectiveness and high‐energy density than Li‐ion batteries. However, complex phase transitions and polysulfide (PS) shuttling processes impede the high performance of M–S batteries.

Bis(silylene)‐Induced Conversion of Yellow Arsenic

open access: yesChemistryEurope, Volume 4, Issue 5, May 2026.
The reaction of N,N‐bis(silylenyl)aniline with yellow arsenic (As4) affords unprecedented arsasila‐cycles. Depending on light, stoichiometry, and Schlenk surface, the obtained products range from the first 2,5‐disila‐3,4‐diarsapyrrole to four‐ and six‐membered heterocycles.

Experimental methods in chemical engineering: Atomic absorption spectrometry—AAS

open access: yesThe Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, Volume 104, Issue 5, Page 2206-2224, May 2026.
Abstract Elements absorb electromagnetic radiation (light) of a specific wavelength in proportion to the number of atoms in its path. As the atoms absorb this light energy, electrons rise from the ground state to an excited state. In atomic absorption spectrometry (AAS), high temperatures produce clouds of atoms from the sample (atomization) and ...

Directed Evolution of an Efficient Polycarbonate Depolymerase With Exceptional Operational Stability

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, Volume 138, Issue 18, 27 April 2026.
Here, we show that well studied PET hydrolases can be re‐engineered via directed evolution to deconstruct alternative aromatic‐containing commodity polymers. Introduction of only three mutations into LCCICCG was sufficient to generate an efficient polycarbonate hydrolase with high operational stability that can fully depolymerize a polycarbonate sample

Social economy as social science and practice : historical perspectives on France [PDF]

open access: yes
This article aims to investigate the multiple meanings of "économie sociale" ("social economy"), a term which first appeared in France at the founding moment of modern capitalism, both as a concept in the framework for the creation of a social science in

Potential of solid‐state microwaves in lab‐scale chemical‐process development

open access: yesJournal of Chemical Technology &Biotechnology, Volume 101, Issue 5, Page 1077-1093, May 2026.
Abstract BACKGROUND The integration of a solid‐state microwave (MW) generator into a newly designed, versatile MW reactor ensures improved energy efficiency, precise process control and broader application potential. In its most particular feature, the device supports the modification of dielectric‐radiation orientation and can be operated under ...

Electron Microscopy Transfer System to Protect Atmosphere‐Sensitive Materials for Scanning Electron Microscopy Characterization

open access: yesMicroscopy Research and Technique, Volume 89, Issue 5, Page 759-768, May 2026.
SEM–EDX and XRD characterization confirm that pouches made from readily available aluminum foil, used in combination with a commercial cryo‐EM transfer system, effectively protect highly atmosphere‐sensitive and/or hygroscopic materials from contamination during transfer from inert environments to the SEM vacuum chamber.
