CLRe: A Synergistic Dual‐Engine Framework for One‐Step Retrosynthesis Prediction

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
CLRe uses a contrastive difficulty score to order pretrained seq2seq fine‐tuning for retrosynthesis. Reaction embeddings define the ranking score, and a cumulative easy‐to‐hard schedule expands from the easiest subset to the full training set while earlier examples remain active.

An Industrial Organization Theory of Risk Sharing [PDF]

open access: yes
Examining the global reinsurance market for catastrophic losses, we propose a new theory of optimal risk sharing that finds its inspiration in the economic theory of the firm.

Stress Hyperglycemia Drives CD4+ T Cell PANoptosis and Postoperative Organ Injury via Monocyte‐Derived Succinate

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
High glucose is linked to reduced succinate dehydrogenase activity in CD14+ monocytes, accompanied by succinate accumulation and extracellular release. Extracellular succinate exacerbates mitochondrial ROS production and mtDNA release in CD4+ T cells. Cytosolic mtDNA then activates Z‐DNA binding protein 1 (ZBP1) and engages ZBP1‐associated inflammatory

Chimeric IL‐6/4R‐LL37 Engineered Macrophages Achieve Synchronized Inflammation Control and Antimicrobial Defence in Sepsis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Engineered macrophages programmed in situ by LNP‐delivered IL‐6/4 fusion and LL37 mRNAs simultaneously dampen cytokine storm, promote M2‐like repair, and enhance direct bacterial killing in sepsis. This combinatorial strategy restores T cell and macrophage function, lowers organ bacterial burden, and improves survival, highlighting a precision, host ...

The state of global catastrophic risk research: a bibliometric review

open access: yesEarth System Dynamics
Abstract. The global catastrophic risk (GCR) and existential risk (ER) literature focuses on analyzing and preventing potential major global catastrophes including a human extinction event. Over the past two decades, the field of GCR/ER research has grown considerably. However, there has been little meta-research on the field itself. How large has this

Battery‐Inspired Electrochemical Synapses for Neuromorphic Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Battery‐ion‐inspired synaptic devices integrate diverse electrolyte systems (solid, ion‐gel, liquid) with transition metal oxides, two‐dimensional materials, and organic channels to regulate ion‐electron coupling. By tailoring ion transport and host interactions, these platforms enable controllable plasticity and energy‐efficient implementations for ...

Asteroids: Assessing Catastrophic Risks

open access: yesJournal of Probability and Statistics, 2010
We evaluate two risk profiles: (i) global warming risks and (ii) collisions with asteroids that can cause the extinction of our species. The expected values computed for these two risks suggest that no action will be taken to avoid extinction. The result

Financial risk of seeking maternal and neonatal healthcare in southern Ethiopia: a cohort study of rural households

open access: yesInternational Journal for Equity in Health, 2020
Introduction Ethiopian households’ out-of-pocket healthcare payments constitute one-third of the national healthcare budget and are higher than the global and low-income countries average, and even the global target.

CLIMATE POLICY WHEN THE DISTANT FUTURE MATTERS: CATASTROPHIC EVENTS WITH HYPERBOLIC DISCOUNTING [PDF]

open access: yes
Low probability catastrophic climate change can have a signifcant influence on policy under hyperbolic discounting. We compare the set of Markov Perfect Equilibria (MPE) to the optimal policy under time-consistent commitment.
