A globally convergent frequency estimator
Online estimation of the frequency of a sinusoidal signal is a classical problem in systems theory that has many practical applications. In this paper we provide a solution to the long-standing fundamental open problem of ensuring a globally convergent estimation. More specifically, we propose a new adaptive notch filter whose dynamic equations exhibit

Media Licensing, Convergence and Globalization
Abstract:Published in EastBound, Vol. 1, March 13, 2006For nearly a century, governments have imposed detailed limits on theuse of radio - who can use what frequencies and waveforms, at whatpower levels, in which locations, for what purposes. Licensessummarize these controls for specific users or stations. State controlof radio use goes far beyond what

Tax Convergence and Globalization
This paper addresses three questions: 1. Is there evidence that the tax systems of different countries have converged (i.e., become more similar) in the period 1980-2010? 2. If so, what is the explanation for this convergence? 3. Is convergence a positive or negative development?

Globalization and Taste Convergence: The Cases of Wine and Beer [PDF]
AbstractThis paper investigates changes in cultural consumption patterns for a low‐concentration industry: wine and beer. Using data on 38 countries from 1963–2000, there is clear convergence in the consumption of wine relative to beer between 1963 and 2000.

As many patients with inflammatory arthritis (IA) have chronic pain, understanding how to best assess and manage pain in IA is a priority. Comorbid depression is prevalent in adults with IA, affecting 15% to 39% of people. Although pain and depression are thought to be associated in IA, this concept is largely based on cross‐sectional data.

Lightweight Multi-Task Learning Method for System Log Anomaly Detection
Log anomaly detection is a crucial task in monitoring IT systems along with metrics and traces. An anomaly could be detected by either one of two types of logs: individual logs or log sequences.

Objectives Social determinants of health (SDoH) can impact outcomes but are not routinely screened for in US outpatient rheumatology clinics. This study determined the feasibility of routine point‐of‐care SDoH screening among patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), and associated barriers and facilitators at the physician, care team, and ...

Globally convergent homotopy methods: A tutorial [PDF]
The basic theory for probability one globally convergent homotopy algorithms was developed in 1976, and since then the theory, algorithms, and applications have considerably expanded. These are algorithms for solving nonlinear systems of (algebraic) equations, which are convergent for almost all choices of starting point.
