Post-Colonialism and Sci-Fi as Pedagogy: Film as a Vehicle for Understanding [PDF]

open access: yesContexto Internacional
Post-Colonialism has proved to be challenging for students studying the Global South especially in the United States. Books like Edward Said’s Orientalism have proved difficult to read.

Study Effect of nAg Particle Size on the Properties and Antibacterial Characteristics of Polysulfone Membranes

open access: yesNanomaterials, 2022
Polysulfone ultrafiltration membranes were fabricated using various sizes (20, 40, and 90–210 nm) of silver nanoparticles (nAg) blended in a dope solution.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Autophagy and mitophagy in pancreatic β‐cell homeostasis and their involvement in diabetes pathophysiology

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This review focuses on the role of autophagy and mitophagy in maintaining pancreatic β‐cell function and homeostasis. We discuss how genetic defects affecting these pathways contribute to the development of type 1, type 2, monogenic, and gestational diabetes. We further explore their potential as therapeutic targets. Created in BioRender.

The United Nations of IR: power, knowledge, and empire in Global IR debates

open access: yesInternational Theory, 2023
AbstractThis paper critiques a core premise of Global IR: the association of knowledge with geography, which we term geo-epistemology. It argues that ‘American’ and Global IR share a Eurocentric spatial imaginary, one that was a product of Western expansion and empire.

Polarization‐resolved femtosecond Vis/IR spectroscopy tailored for resolving weak signals in biological samples using minimal sample volume

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Unique biological samples, such as site‐specific mutant proteins, are available only in limited quantities. Here, we present a polarization‐resolved transient infrared spectroscopy setup with referencing to improve signal‐to‐noise tailored towards tracing small signals. We provide an overview of characterizing the excitation conditions for polarization‐

An Autoethnography of Hybrid IR Scholars: De-Territorializing the Global IR Debate

open access: yesInternational Political Sociology, 2023
AbstractWho can speak from the perspective of the Global South? In answering this question, Global International Relations (IR) finds itself in a cul de sac: rather than globalize IR, Global IR essentializes non-Western categories by associating difference and knowledge to place (countries, regions, and civilizations) which occludes de-territorialized ...
