The rate of global sea level rise doubled during the past three decades

open access: yesCommunications Earth & Environment
The rise in globally averaged sea level—or global mean sea level—is one of the most unambiguous indicators of climate change. Over the past three decades, satellites have provided continuous, accurate measurements of sea level on near-global scales. Here,

Sensitivity of Climate Change Projections to Uncertainties in the Estimates of Observed Changes in Deep-Ocean Heat Content [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
and PDF report are also available on the MIT Joint Program on the Science and Policy of Global Change website (http://globalchange.mit.edu/).The MIT 2D climate model is used to make probabilistic projections for changes in global mean surface temperature

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Global climate change : greenhouse effect [PDF]

open access: yes, 1992
One of the main problems caused by climate change is the greenhouse effect. Human activities emit so-called greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, such as carbon dioxide which is produced through fossil fuel burning.

Global glacier volume projections under high-end climate change scenarios [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
The Paris agreement aims to hold global warming to well below 2°C and to pursue efforts to limit it to 1.5°C relative to the pre-industrial period. Recent estimates based on population growth and intended carbon emissions from participant countries ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Sheet-crack cements in Marinoan (635 Ma) cap dolostones as regional benchmarks of vanishing ice-sheets. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Sheet-crack cements and coextensive intrastratal folds and breccias occur in a stratigraphically controlled, meter-thick zone, near the base of Marinoan (635 Ma) cap dolostones in slope settings.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Assessment of Sea Level Rise at West Coast of Portugal Mainland and Its Projection for the 21st Century

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering, 2019
Based on the updated relative sea level rise rates, 21st-century projections are made for the west coast of Portugal Mainland. The mean sea level from Cascais tide gauge and North Atlantic satellite altimetry data have been analyzed.

Year by year closure adjustment of global mean sea level budget, inclusive of lumped snow, water vapor, and permafrost mass components

open access: yesJournal of Geodetic Science, 2020
Global mean sea level budget is rigorously adjusted during the period 2005–2015 with an emphasis on closing the budget on a year by year basis as opposed to using linear trends of global mean sea level components.
