Facets of the Tropical High-Cloud Feedback in a Global Storm-Resolving Model

open access: yes
Abstract Tropical high clouds are the cloud type that contributes most to the uncertainty in climate sensitivity, as their feedback on global warming remains poorly constrained. One reason for this is that global circulation models (GCMs) do not resolve the full spectrum of high clouds, ranging from thin cirrus to thick deep convective ...

Nanocellulose Alleviates Intrahepatic Cholestasis of Pregnancy via Gut Microbiota‐Mediated Bile Acid Homeostasis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Nanocellulose, derived from microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) through sulfuric acid hydrolysis or mechanical grinding to produce CNC or CNF, was tested in a rat ICP model. Particularly, CNF improved gut microbiota composition, reduced secondary bile acid metabolism, and restored bile acid homeostasis through modulation of the gut–liver axis.

Multiscale Interactions in the Life Cycle of a Tropical Cyclone Simulated in a Global Cloud-System-Resolving Model. Part I: Large-Scale and Storm-Scale Evolutions*

open access: yes, 2010
The Nonhydrostatic Icosahedral Atmospheric Model (NICAM), a global cloud-system-resolving model, successfully simulated the life cycle of Tropical Storm Isobel that formed over the Timor Sea in the austral summer of 2006.

Single‐Atom Pt Anchoring on Self‐Doped ZrO2@G‐C3N4 Nanostructure Enables Efficient Photocatalytic Seawater Hydrogen Evolution

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Grain‐like Zr3+‐ZrO2 and Pt single atoms are integrated into an S‐scheme Zr3+‐ZrO2@g‐C3N4 heterostructure to enable efficient visible‐light‐driven seawater hydrogen production. The combined effect of Pt single‐atom sites and the S‐scheme charge‐transfer pathway accelerates carrier separation, preserves strong redox ability, and markedly enhances ...

TSPYL5 Promotes Triple‐Negative Breast Cancer Metastasis by Antagonizing USP10‐Mediated PTEN Stabilization to Unleash a ZEB1‐Dependent EMT Program

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The hyperactivation of PI3K/AKT signaling in PTEN wild‐type triple‐negative breast cancer represents a clinical paradox. We delineate a novel post‐translational regulatory axis wherein the oncogene TSPYL5 competitively antagonizes the deubiquitinase USP10.

Modelling of elevated mesoscale convective systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Elevated convection occurs when convection originates from above the boundary layer. The interaction of an elevated storm with the stable layer beneath it often generates features such as waves and bores that maintain the convection.

ICON Simulations Suggest Model-Dependent Cloud Feedbacks in Global Storm-Resolving Models

open access: yes
Abstract Climate feedbacks, key determinants of Earth’s temperature response to radiative forcing, remain uncertain, largely because of challenges in representing cloud and convective processes. Global storm-resolving models (GSRMs), which explicitly resolve deep convection, have recently emerged as a promising alternative to conventional ...

Nanoscale Spatial Organization of ARC High‐ and Low‐Order Assemblies at Excitatory Synapses

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ARC (Activity‐Regulated Cytoskeleton‐Associated protein) mediates synaptic plasticity by forming nanoscale assemblies in neurons. Using super‐resolution microscopy and time‐resolved anisotropy with targeted tagging, the study reveals low‐order ARC assemblies at synapses colocalizing with AMPARs, semi‐circular structures at endocytic zones, and 60–80 nm

Multiscale Interactions in the Life Cycle of a Tropical Cyclone Simulated in a Global Cloud-System-Resolving Model. Part II: System-Scale and Mesoscale Processes*

open access: yes, 2010
The life cycle of Tropical Storm Isobel was simulated reasonably well in the Nonhydrostatic Icosahedral Atmospheric Model (NICAM), a global cloud-system-resolving model.

Liquid Metal Nanotransformers for Drug‐Resistant Pan‐Cancer Therapy in Patient‐Derived Organoids

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Pan‐cancer therapies are severely limited in drug‐resistance patients due to genetic mutations and other factors, resulting in poor therapeutic outcomes and constrained clinical benefit. Liquid metal nanotransformers, a new class of shape‐transformable nanomaterials capable of dramatic morphological changes, offer a promising physical strategy to ...
