Immunogenicity and Serological Cross-Reactivity of Saliva Proteins among Different Tsetse Species. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS Neglected Tropical Diseases, 2015
Tsetse are vectors of pathogenic trypanosomes, agents of human and animal trypanosomiasis in Africa. Components of tsetse saliva (sialome) are introduced into the mammalian host bite site during the blood feeding process and are important for tsetse's ...

Gonadulin and Insulin‐Like Growth Factor Involved in Rhipicephalus microplus Reproduction

open access: yesEntomologia Experimentalis et Applicata, EarlyView.
Insulin‐like growth factor (IGF2) in ovaries of Rhipicephalus microplus partially engorged females. Ovaries from females at different feeding stages were used to detect IGF2. ABSTRACT Gonadulin and insulin‐like growth factor (IGF) are neuropeptides synthesized by the central nervous system (CNS) of arthropods.

Genome and transcriptome‐based identification and expression profiling of chemosensory gene families across developmental stages and tissues in Sirex noctilio (Hymenoptera: Siricidae)

open access: yesInsect Molecular Biology, EarlyView.
The first draft genome of Sirex noctilio was produced. Fifteen S. noctilio transcriptomes were sequenced to study chemosensory gene expression patterns. SnocOR16 and SnocSNMP1 displayed tissue‐ and sex‐specific expression patterns. Abstract The Sirex woodwasp (Sirex noctilio; Hymenoptera: Siricidae) is among the most destructive invasive pests ...

Comparative genomic analysis of six Glossina genomes, vectors of African trypanosomes

open access: yesGenome Biology, 2019
Background Tsetse flies (Glossina sp.) are the vectors of human and animal trypanosomiasis throughout sub-Saharan Africa. Tsetse flies are distinguished from other Diptera by unique adaptations, including lactation and the birthing of live young ...

Evolution and structural analysis of Glossina morsitans (Diptera; Glossinidae) Tetraspanins [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Tetraspanins are important conserved integral membrane proteins expressed in many organisms. Although there is limited knowledge about the full repertoire, evolution and structural characteristics of individual members in various organisms, data ...

Comparative evaluation of the attractiveness of new polyethylene screens versus West African tiny target for the control of tsetse flies

open access: yesMedical and Veterinary Entomology, EarlyView.
The material has no significant difference in captures (non‐shiny cotton‐polyester screens vs. the shiny polyethylene screens), but the vertical screen attracted significantly more G. tachinoides for each type of material. Full white horizontal screen was significantly lower than the reference WATT.

Tsetse EP protein protects the fly midgut from trypanosome establishment. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS Pathogens, 2010
African trypanosomes undergo a complex developmental process in their tsetse fly vector before transmission back to a vertebrate host. Typically, 90% of fly infections fail, most during initial establishment of the parasite in the fly midgut.

Microinjection‐enabled gene silencing in first instar larvae of western flower thrips, Frankliniella occidentalis, reveals vital genes for larval survival

open access: yesInsect Science, Volume 32, Issue 6, Page 1969-1981, December 2025.
This study introduces a microinjection technique to deliver dsRNA into the hemolymph of first instar larval thrips (L1s) via the foreleg coxa, enhancing survival rates by minimizing internal tissue damage. Significant knockdown of V‐ATPase‐B, CYP3653A2, and ApoLp‐II/I was achieved, with silencing of CYP3653A2 or ApoLp‐II/I increasing larval mortality ...
