Gonadulin and Insulin‐Like Growth Factor Involved in Rhipicephalus microplus Reproduction

open access: yesEntomologia Experimentalis et Applicata, Volume 174, Issue 3, Page 285-295, March 2026.
Insulin‐like growth factor (IGF2) in ovaries of Rhipicephalus microplus partially engorged females. Ovaries from females at different feeding stages were used to detect IGF2. ABSTRACT Gonadulin and insulin‐like growth factor (IGF) are neuropeptides synthesized by the central nervous system (CNS) of arthropods.

Identification of Glossina morsitans morsitans odorant binding proteins genes in Glossina fuscipes fuscipes: a preliminary study

open access: yes, 2015
Tsetse flies are vectors of trypanosome parasites, causative agents of Trypanosomiasis in humans and animals. Odorant Binding Proteins (OBPs) are critical in insect olfaction as they bind volatile odours from the environment and transport them to ...

Trypanosomiasis vector control in Africa and Latin America. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Vectors of trypanosomiasis - tsetse (Glossinidae) in Africa, kissing-bugs (Triatominae) in Latin America - are very different insects but share demographic characteristics that render them highly vulnerable to available control methods.

Epidemiology of Bovine Trypanosomiasis in Abe Dongoro District, Western Ethiopia: A Cross‐Sectional Study

open access: yesJournal of Parasitology Research, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
Background and Aims Bovine trypanosomosis is a major protozoan disease constraining cattle productivity in sub‐Saharan Africa. This cross‐sectional study is aimed at determining the prevalence and associated risk factors of bovine trypanosomosis in the Abe Dongoro district, Western Ethiopia.

Cloning and expression of the yolk protein of the tsetse fly Glossina morsitans morsitans

open access: yesInsect Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, 2004
Two major families of nutritional proteins exist in insects, namely the vitellogenins and the yolk proteins. While in other insects only vitellogenins are found, cyclorraphan flies only contain yolk proteins. Possible sites of yolk protein synthesis are the fat body and the follicle cells surrounding the oocyte.

African Trypanosomiasis Research at a Crossroads: Bibliometric and Systematic Insights for the Future

open access: yesJournal of Parasitology Research, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
Aim Despite a reduction in the overall incidence and prevalence in the last two decades, trypanosomiasis continues to be a public health concern in Africa. This study was designed to comprehensively evaluate current trends in trypanosomiasis research using bibliometric approaches to uncover emerging topics and knowledge gaps, thereby guiding future ...

Microinjection‐enabled gene silencing in first instar larvae of western flower thrips, Frankliniella occidentalis, reveals vital genes for larval survival

open access: yesInsect Science, Volume 32, Issue 6, Page 1969-1981, December 2025.
This study introduces a microinjection technique to deliver dsRNA into the hemolymph of first instar larval thrips (L1s) via the foreleg coxa, enhancing survival rates by minimizing internal tissue damage. Significant knockdown of V‐ATPase‐B, CYP3653A2, and ApoLp‐II/I was achieved, with silencing of CYP3653A2 or ApoLp‐II/I increasing larval mortality ...
