The preparation ofD-glucaric acid by the oxidation ofD-gluconic acid catalysed by platinum on carbon
D-Gluconic acid is oxidised with gaseous oxygen (platinum-carbon catalyst) to D-glucaric acid via L-guluronic acid. C1C5 mono- and di-carboxylic acids are formed by side and consecutive reactions of D-gluconic acid and D-glucaric acid, respectively.

UV irradiation drives metabolite complexity through photoisomerization of hydroxycinnamic acid‐containing compounds in plants. The olefin functional group of hydroxycinnamic acid enables structural plasticity through trans/cis isomerization. Multiple chromophores within a molecule can amplify UV‐induced transformations.

In connection with the biochemical studies on D-glucaric acid, a normal constituent of human urine which is derived from D-glucuronolactone, we developed a colorimetric method for the quantitative determination of this acid. Thus, D-glucaric acid separated from mammalian urines using ion-exchange column chromatography was oxidized with periodic acid to

Proper myelin formation is crucial for normal neural circuit function, while myelin deficiency can lead to neural circuit dysfunction and cognitive decline, notably in Alzheimer's disease and other central nervous system demyelinating disorders. This review summarizes central myelin's structure and function, demyelination biomarkers and pathological ...
