D‐Mannose Alleviates Type 2 Diabetes and Rescues Multi‐Organ Deteriorations by Controlling Release of Pathological Extracellular Vesicles

open access: yesExploration, EarlyView.
In this study, Zhang and colleagues show that drinking‐water supplementation of D‐mannose serves as an effective and potential therapeutic of type 2 diabetes, with improvement of both liver health and bone mass. The effect is exerted through suppressing macrophage release of extracellular vesicles based on metabolic control of CD36 expression.

ATP8B1 Deficiency Causes Phosphodiesterase 4-Mediated Glucagon Resistance and Impaired Gluconeogenesis in Mouse and Human Liver. [PDF]

open access: yesLiver Int
ABSTRACT Background and Aims Deficiency of the phospholipid transporter ATP8B1 causes infantile‐onset progressive familial intrahepatic cholestasis type I (PFIC1). Pre‐transplant PFIC1 patients often present with mild dyslipidaemia. This raises the possibility that PFIC1 patients, besides cholestasis, may also experience defects in glucose and lipid ...

Oat Bran Supplementation Improves Glucose Metabolism, Food Addiction, and Gut Microbiota in Rats With High‐Fat Diet‐Induced Obesity

open access: yesFood Frontiers, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Oat bran (OB), a byproduct of the oat milling process, is a nutrient‐dense cereal cultivated in cool, dry mountainous regions and is known for its potential health benefits. To explore its obesity‐alleviating effects and the underlying mechanisms, we examined the influence of OB on glucose metabolism, appetite‐regulating hormones, gut ...

The novel adiponectin-resistin (AR) and insulin resistance (IR~AR~) indexes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Serum hypoadiponectinemia and hyperrestinemia independently links insulin resistance to type 2 diabetes (T2DM) and metabolic syndrome (MS). Thus, the aim of this study was propose a novel adiponectin-resistin (AR) index by unifying the effect of ...
