Hygroscopic compounds in spider aggregate glue remove interfacial water to maintain adhesion in humid conditions

open access: yesNature Communications, 2018
Adhesion in humid environments is fundamentally challenging because of the presence of interfacial bound water. Spiders often hunt in wet habitats and overcome this challenge using sticky aggregate glue droplets whose adhesion is resistant to interfacial

Unassisted Photoelectrochemical Hydrogen Production Coupled with Selective Glucose Oxidation Using Metal Halide Perovskite Photoanodes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A metal halide perovskite‐based photoanode integrated with a CoNiFe layered double hydroxide (LDH) cocatalyst is reported for selective glucose oxidation reaction (GOR), achieving simultaneous and unassisted photoelectrochemical hydrogen production. This system delivers high photocurrent density, excellent Faradaic efficiency of GOR, and strong techno ...

Lateral Load Carrying Capacities of Particleboard Shear Walls Made by Gluing with Timber Studs

open access: yesBioResources, 2022
Particleboard shear walls were developed and their lateral load carrying capacities were evaluated. The shear walls were made by connecting particleboards and timber studs with polyurethane (PUR) or nails.

Optimizing Genetic Parameters of CSM-CERES Wheat and CSM-CERES Maize for Durum Wheat, Common Wheat, and Maize in Italy

open access: yesAgronomy, 2019
The expected increase in population and the pressure posed by climate change on agricultural production require the assessment of future yield levels and the evaluation of the most suitable management options to minimize climate risk and promote ...

Cell matrix adhesions in cancer: The proteins that form the glue

open access: yesOncoTarget, 2017
The main purposes of Integrin-mediated cell contacts are to interpret bi-directional signals between the extracellular environment and intracellular proteins, as well as, anchor the cell to a matrix. Many cell adhesion molecules have been discovered with

Micropatterned Biphasic Printed Electrodes for High‐Fidelity on‐Skin Bioelectronics

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Micropatterned biphasic printed electrodes achieve unprecedented skin conformity and low impedance by combining liquid‐metal droplets with microstructured 3D lattices. This scalable approach enables high‐fidelity detection of ECG, EMG, and EEG signals, including alpha rhythms from the forehead, with long‐term comfort and stability.

Comments on the d-wave pairing mechanism for cuprate high $T_c$ superconductors: Higher is different?

open access: yes, 2012
The question of pairing glue for the cuprate superconductors (SC)is revisited and its determination through the angle resolved photo-emission spectroscopy (ARPES) is discussed in detail.

Laser‐Induced Graphene from Waste Almond Shells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Almond shells, an abundant agricultural by‐product, are repurposed to create a fully bioderived almond shell/chitosan composite (ASC) degradable in soil. ASC is converted into laser‐induced graphene (LIG) by laser scribing and proposed as a substrate for transient electronics.

Physical and Mechanical Properties of Glued Laminated Bamboo

open access: yesBioResources, 2023
Certain bamboo species have mechanical properties that are compatible with construction material. Despite this, their low shear strength, the presence of nodes in their culms, and their circular geometry inhibit the expansion of the use of this material ...

Substrate Stress Relaxation Regulates Cell‐Mediated Assembly of Extracellular Matrix

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Silicone‐based viscoelastic substrates with tunable stress relaxation reveal how matrix mechanics regulates cellular mechanosensing and cell‐mediated matrix remodelling in the stiff regime. High stress relaxation promotes assembly of fibronectin fibril‐like structures, increased nuclear localization of YAP and formation of β1 integrin‐enriched ...
