Is type 2 diabetes really resolved after laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy? Glucose variability studied by continuous glucose monitoring [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The study was carried out on type 2 diabetic obese patients who underwent laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG). Patients underwent regular glycemic controls throughout 3 years and all patients were defined cured from diabetes according to conventional ...

Tissue‐Stimulator Platform for Electrically Stimulating Pancreatic β‐Cells for Long‐Term Functional Regulation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We present a tissue‐stimulator platform for seamless electrode integration with pancreatic tissue, applying uniform electrical stimulation through optimized design with biohybrid 3D printing. Advantageous effects of electrical stimulation on β‐cell function were observed, including enhanced calcium signaling, islet morphology, and maturation.

Metabolic responses to high glycemic index and low glycemic index meals: a controlled crossover clinical trial

open access: yesNutrition Journal, 2011
Background The consumption of low glycemic index (LGI) foods before exercise results in slower and more stable glycemic increases. Besides maintaining an adequate supply of energy during exercise, this response may favor an increase in fat oxidation in ...

Labelling and testing of foods designated as suitable for diabetic and low calorie diets [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The aim of this project was to assess whether consumers, especially those following a diabetic or low calorie diet, would benefit from newly designed food labels denoting glycaemic load and whether these labels would help them make a faster food ...

Glycemic load, glycemic index, and body mass index in Spanish adults [PDF]

open access: yesThe American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, 2009
Studies on obesity and glycemic index (GI) or glycemic load (GL) have had inconsistent results, perhaps in part because of underreporting or to heterogeneous dietary patterns across food cultures. We examined associations between body mass index (BMI) and GI or GL in a Mediterranean population, accounting for underreporting.

Digital Microneedles for Multiplexed Transdermal Sensing via Fluorescent QR Codes

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Digital fluorescent microneedles encode biochemical information in skin into scannable QR codes through threshold‐activated probes that generate binary on/off signals. By transforming analog fluorescence into discrete digital patterns, this platform enables calibration‐free, multiplexed transdermal sensing of physiologically relevant biomarkers ...

Carbohydrates, Glycemic Index, and Glycemic Load in Relation to Bladder Cancer Risk

open access: yesFrontiers in Oncology, 2020
Objective: Epidemiologic studies investigating the association between dietary carbohydrates as well as glycemic index and glycemic load (markers of carbohydrate quality) and bladder cancer risk have yielded inconsistent results.

The Effect of a Maternal Mediterranean Diet in Pregnancy on Insulin Resistance is Moderated by Maternal Negative Affect. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
There is inconsistent evidence that healthy dietary interventions can effectively mitigate the risk of adverse outcomes associated with elevated insulin resistance in pregnancy, suggesting that other moderating factors may be at play.

Sex‐Specific Regulation of Glycemic Homeostasis by Theabrownin from Pu‐erh Tea

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Pu‐erh tea's key component, theabrownin (TB), lowers blood glucose in a sex‐specific manner. In females, estrogen boosts intestinal MUC2 production, which dramatically enhances TB's ability to inhibit the carbohydrate‐digesting enzyme α‐glucosidase.

OPTIMIZATION OF RECIPE FOR BAKERY PRODUCTSWITH LOW-MOISTURE CONTENTFOR REDUCING THE GLYCEMIC INDEX

open access: yesHarčova Nauka ì Tehnologìâ, 2019
The modern concept of recipe development and improvement has to be based on fundamental knowledge about the chemical composition of ingredients as well as mechanisms of their assimilation.
