Radiolysis of Amino Acids by Heavy and Energetic Cosmic Ray Analogs in Simulated Space Environments: $\alpha$-Glycine Zwitterion Form

open access: yes, 2014
In this work, we studied the stability of the glycine molecule in the crystalline zwitterion form, known as {\alpha}-glycine ($^{+}$NH$_{3}$CH$_{2}$COO$^{-}$) under action of heavy cosmic ray analogs.

C9orf72 ALS‐causing mutations lead to mislocalization and aggregation of nucleoporin Nup107 into stress granules

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mutations in the C9orf72 gene represent the most common genetic cause of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a fatal neurodegenerative disease. Using patient‐derived neurons and C. elegans models, we find that the nucleoporin Nup107 is dysregulated in C9orf72‐associated ALS. Conversely, reducing Nup107 levels mitigates disease‐related changes.

Feeding Preference Studies of Adult \u3ci\u3eNezara Viridula\u3c/i\u3e (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae) Morphs from India and the United States [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Nezara viridula (Linnaeus) morphs from India and the United States were studied in a laboratory comparison of feeding preferences for pods of soybeans, Glycine max, and green beans, Phaseolus vulgaris. Adults of a morph from the U.S.

Metabolism of Glycine.

open access: yesExperimental Biology and Medicine, 1951
SummaryThe metabolism of glycine in mice has been studied after a single injection of glycine-2-C14 by following the specific activity of the uncombined glycine in plasma, liver and skeletal muscle, as well as the specific activity of the respiratory CO2.

Photosynthesis under far‐red light—evolutionary adaptations and bioengineering of light‐harvesting complexes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phototrophs evolved light‐harvesting systems adapted for efficient photon capture in habitats enriched in far‐red radiation. A subset of eukaryotic pigment‐binding proteins can absorb far‐red photons via low‐energy chlorophyll states known as red forms.

Effects of Reaction Conditions on the Formation of Furfural Compounds in Maillard Reaction System of Glucose-Glycine

open access: yesShipin gongye ke-ji, 2023
The Maillard reaction system of glucose and glycine was applied to study the formations of furfural compounds. The effects of glucose/glycine molar concentration ratio, initial pH, heating temperature and time on the formations of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural

Detectability of Glycine in Solar-type System Precursors

open access: yes, 2014
Glycine (NH2CH2COOH) is the simplest amino acid relevant for life. Its detection in the interstellar medium is key to understand the formation mechanisms of pre-biotic molecules and their subsequent delivery onto planetary systems.

A Cre‐dependent lentiviral vector for neuron subtype‐specific expression of large proteins

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We designed a versatile and modular lentivector comprising a Cre‐dependent switch and self‐cleaving 2A peptide and tested it for co‐expression of GFP and a 2.8 kb gene of interest (GOI) in mouse cortical parvalbumin (PV+) interneurons and midbrain dopamine (TH+) neurons.

Glycine and glycine receptor immunoreactivity in brain and spinal cord [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of Neuroscience, 1988
To study the distribution of glycine immunoreactive neurons in the spinal cord and brain, antisera were raised against glycine conjugated to protein carriers. High-titer rabbit glycine antiserum was purified by affinity chromatography. Testing against other amino acids and peptides with immuno dot blots and ELISA assays showed little apparent cross ...
