Interaction between glycogen and glycogen phosphorylase of Tetrahymena

Archives of Biochemistry and Biophysics, 1971
Abstract The glycogen phosphorylase of Tetrahymena pyriformis complexes with glycogen as judged by its elution pattern from columns of Sepharose 6B. Complex formation does not occur with starch, amylose, or amylopectin, and neither do these polyglucans serve as primers for the enzyme.

THE STRUCTURE OF GLYCOGENS

Biological Reviews, 1948
Summary1. The usual criteria for identification of glycogen are discussed. It is pointed out that these can be applied equally well to amylopectin and α‐amylodextrin. Numerous so‐called glycogens in plants and micro‐organisms may not be chemically identical with animal glycogens, which may quite well vary among themselves.2.

PLACENTAL GLYCOGEN

BJOG: An International Journal of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, 1976
SummaryThe quantity and distribution of glycogen has been studied in 86 placentae from the last trimester of pregnancy and 8 of 8 to 16 weeks gestational age. In the first trimester glycogen concentrations were high, between 4.5 to 6.5 mg/g of blood‐free tissue, but from about 12 weeks to term the concentrations were within a narrow range around 1.5 mg/

Diet, muscle glycogen and physical performance.

Acta Physiologica Scandinavica, 1967
The muscle glycogen content of the quadriceps femoris muscle was determined in 9 healthy subjects with the aid of the needle biopsy technique. The glycogen content could be varied in the individual subjects by instituting different diets after exhaustion

Glycogen synthesis and glycogen synthetase in rat ascites hepatomas of low and high glycogen content

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - General Subjects, 1971
Abstract 1. 1. Glycogenic capacities of two rat ascites hepatomas, namely, glycogen- deficient AH-130 and glycogen-rich AH-66F, were compared either at whole cell level with [14C]glucose as substrate or by studying the activity and properties of glycogen synthetase. 2. 2. With [14C]glucose as substrate, glycogen synthesis was initiated in the

Dynamics of liver glycogen

Histochemistry, 1975
Using histochemical techniques the glycogen content and the activities of glycogen synthetase (UDPGGT) and phosphorylase were studied in the livers of 106 golden hamsters under following experimental conditions; a) starvation of 16, 36, 48, 72, and 96 hours: b) alloxan-diabetes.

INSULIN AND GLYCOGEN SYNTHASE

Diabetes, 1972
The present status of the molecular nature of the enzyme glycogen synthase from rabbit skeletal muscle is reviewed. It is shown that per 90,000 Dalton subunit there are six phosphorylatable sites and six sulfhydryl groups. No pyridoxal phosphate is present.
