Flocculation properties of polyethylene glycol-modified lignin

Separation and Purification Technology, 2020
Abstract Polyethylene glycol (PEG)-modified lignin (glycol lignin) can be produced through an acid-catalyzed reaction of Japanese cedar using PEG as a solvolysis reagent. Acid precipitation and the following solid–liquid separation steps are the rate-determining processes for glycol lignin production.

STUDIES ON LIGNIN AND RELATED COMPOUNDS: II GLYCOL-LIGNIN AND GLYCOL-ETHER-LIGNIN

Canadian Journal of Research, 1930
The extraction of spruce wood meal with ethylene glycol in the presence of 0.05% HCl leads to the isolation of a lignin derivative to which the name glycol-lignin is given. If the monomethyl ether of glycol be substituted for the free alcohol, a glycol-ether-lignin is obtained which has a much higher methoxyl content than glycol-lignin. The product of

Evidence for the heterogeneity of glycol lignin

Industrial & Engineering Chemistry Research, 1991
Glycol and kraft lignins have been fractionated by solvent extraction using a sequence of organic solvents of increasing hydrogen-bonding capability. A comparison between the fractions from both lignins has been made in terms of yield, elemental analysis, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and molecular weight distribution.

STUDIES ON LIGNIN AND RELATED COMPOUNDS: XV. PHENOL GLYCOL LIGNIN

Canadian Journal of Research, 1935
Phenol condensation products of glycol lignin, of a premethylated and a fully methylated glycol lignin have been prepared. In each case it has been found that, on the basis of the five methoxyl groups present in the original glycol lignin, three molecules of phenol react with one lignin unit by nuclear condensation, and when the product is worked up ...

Characterization of lignin residues derived from the alkaline hydrolysis of glycol lignin

Canadian Journal of Chemistry, 1990
Lignin residues from the alkaline hydrolysis of solvolytic lignin have been characterized by elemental analysis, size exclusion chromatography, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, 13C NMR, and for methoxyl content. All lignin residues were found to have higher carbon and lower oxygen contents than the original glycol lignin.
