STUDIES ON LIGNIN AND RELATED COMPOUNDS: IX. ETHERS OF GLYCOL-LIGNIN

Canadian Journal of Research, 1931
Glycol-lignin prepared from spruce wood has been found to form a sodium salt which reacts with chloro-derivatives, giving rise to the corresponding glycol-lignin ethers. These compounds are insoluble in aqueous sodium hydroxide but still contain free hydroxyl groups which can be methylated without the ethereal linkage being broken. Hence glycol-lignin

STUDIES ON LIGNIN AND RELATED COMPOUNDS: IV. THE NITRATION OF GLYCOL-LIGNIN

Canadian Journal of Research, 1930
Glycol-lignin at temperatures below 0 °C., dissolves completely in a mixture of four parts of acetic anhydride and one part of fuming nitric acid, giving rise to a 125% yield of a product (nitrated-lignin) which has undergone nitration and acetylation. The nitrogen in the product is present partly in the form of a nitro group, an ester of nitric acid,

Lignin in Ethylene Glycol and Poly(ethylene glycol): Fortified Lubricants with Internal Hydrogen Bonding

ACS Sustainable Chemistry & Engineering, 2016
Lignin, one of the most naturally abundant polymers, has been successfully incorporated into ethylene glycol (EG) and poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) in this work and fortified lubricating properties were achieved in EG/lignin and PEG/lignin. The molecular interaction between lignin and EG (or PEG) has been revealed as hydrogen bonding, which serves as the

Thermolysis of glycol lignin in the presence of tetralin

The Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, 1993
AbstractAn organosolv (ethylene glycol) hardwood lignin has been thermally treated in the presence of tetralin, a hydrogen donor solvent. The effects of reaction temperature and time on product distribution were studied as a function of a seventy index, Xc = ℓn (Rω with Rω = Δt t × exp [(Tr ‐ Tb)/ω] where Δt = time, Tr = reaction temperature, Tb = base

STUDIES ON LIGNIN AND RELATED COMPOUNDS: XIII. THE STRUCTURE AND PROPERTIES OF GLYCOL LIGNIN

Canadian Journal of Research, 1935
Lignin was extracted from spruce wood meal with ethylene glycol containing (a) 0.05% and (b) 0.2% hydrogen chloride. On purification the two glycol lignins were found to contain 16.9% OCH3 and 62.8% C., and 16.5% OCH3 and 64.7% C. respectively. The aqueous glycol mother liquor was found to contain a soluble lignin-carbohydrate compound.

Fractionation and Characterization of Glycol Lignins by Stepwise-pH Precipitation of Japanese Cedar/Poly(ethylene glycol) Solvolysis Liquor

ACS Sustainable Chemistry & Engineering, 2021
Recently, we have demonstrated the initial process design of acid-catalyzed poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) solvolysis of softwood Japanese cedar (JC) in a large-scale batch reactor (50 kg wood meal pe...

Preparation and Characterization of Imidacloprid Lignin–Polyethylene Glycol Matrices Coated with Ethylcellulose

Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, 2012
Imidacloprid, a systemic insecticide that has a water solubility of 610 mg L(-1), has been formulated in lignin-polyethylene glycol matrices by a melting process. This formulation was coated in a Wurster type fluidized-bed equipment using ethylcellulose and dibutyl sebacate. Imidacloprid has been entrapped, with an entrapment efficiency higher than 87%

Polyesters from lignin—2. The copolyesterification of kraft lignin and polyethylene glycols with dicarboxylic acid chlorides

European Polymer Journal, 1991
Abstract Cross-linked copolyesters containing kraft lignin were synthesized with sebacoyl chloride and terephthaloyl chloride by bulk polymerization. Polyethylene glycol was used as co-monomer and solvent for lignin. The effects of COCl/OH ratio, percentage of kraft lignin and molecular weight of PEG on the yield and thermal properties of these ...
