TGF-beta signaling proteins and the Protein Ontology [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The Protein Ontology (PRO) is designed as a formal and principled Open Biomedical Ontologies (OBO) Foundry ontology for proteins. The components of PRO extend from a classification of proteins on the basis of evolutionary relationships at the ...

Clinical and magnetic resonance imaging characteristics of thoracolumbar intervertenral disk extrusions and protrusions in large breed dogs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
It has recently been shown that the fat-derived hormone adiponectin has the ability to decrease hyperglycemia and to reverse insulin resistance. However, bacterially produced full-length adiponectin is functionally inactive. Here, we show that endogenous

Structural Insights Into Man9 Recognition by the HIV Antibody 2G12 Revealed by Paramagnetic NMR

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The HIV gp120 glycoprotein displays Man9 oligomannose structures that are recognized by the neutralizing antibody 2G12. Detailed characterization of the binding epitope in solution is important for immunogen design but remains challenging, since the signals of the terminal mannoses from the three arms of Man9 (D1, D2, and D3) cannot be distinguished in

Incorporation of Novel Synthetic Glycolipids in Liposomal Nanoparticles Affects Opsonization and In Vivo Clearance

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
We prepared five glycosylated liposomal nanoparticles (G‐LNPs) to investigate the role of glycosylation and protein corona in modulating the in vivo behavior of G‐LNPs. We show that IgG and complement C3 adsorption enhanced liposomal nanoparticle clearance, with IgG promoting subsequent C3 binding.

The Endoplasmic Reticulum Glucosyltransferase Recognizes Nearly Native Glycoprotein Folding Intermediates [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
The UDP-Glc:glycoprotein glucosyltransferase (GT), a key player in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) quality control of glycoprotein folding, only glucosylates glycoproteins displaying non-native conformations.

Carbohydrates and glycosylation [PDF]

open access: yesWormBook, 2006
The C. elegans genome contains sequences similar to a large number of mammalian genes implicated in the assembly, processing, and modification of glycans. In recent years, spectacular progress has been made in developing and refining tools to obtain structural information with small amounts of material, increasing our understanding of glycan structural

Secreted Nonstructural Protein 3 is a Pathogenic Determinant of Orbivirus

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study uncovers a conserved PIP2‐dependent secretory pathway of orbivirus NS3 that induces vascular leakage. Pharmacological disruption of PIP2‐NS3 interaction significantly reduces viral pathogenicity and provides protective efficacy in murine models, establishing PIP2‐mediated NS3 secretion as both a key virulence determinant and a promising ...

Stereoselective Biotransformation: Transfer of Learning to Advance Drug Metabolism and Biocatalysis

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
Understanding stereoselective biotransformations has implications for predicting drug disposition and response and may also inspire novel biocatalytic and biomimetic strategies to address challenges in metabolite and API synthesis. ABSTRACT Chirality is an important determinant of drug action, as enantiomers can exhibit markedly different ...

Stimuli-responsive self-assembly and structural transition of a glycosylated triblock terpolymer: construction of “Sweet” nanoparticles

open access: yesMaterials & Design
Glycosylated nanoparticles, inspired by natural systems, hold great promise for biomedical applications such as targeted drug delivery and biosensing. However, achieving precise control over their self-assembly and responsiveness remains a challenge.
