Symbiotic outcome modified by the diversification from 7 to over 700 nodule specific cysteine rich peptides [PDF]
Legume-rhizobium symbiosis represents one of the most successfully co-evolved mutualisms. Within nodules, the bacterial cells undergo distinct metabolic and morphological changes and differentiate into nitrogen-fixing bacteroids.

A seed-specific regulator of triterpene saponin biosynthesis in Medicago truncatula [PDF]
Plants produce a vast array of defense compounds to protect themselves from pathogen attack or herbivore predation. Saponins are a specific class of defense compounds comprising bioactive glycosides with a steroidal or triterpenoid aglycone backbone. The

Flavonoids from the cultured cells ofGlycyrrhiza uralensis
Two new flavonoids (1 and 2), along with 14 known ones (3–16), were isolated from the cultured cells of Glycyrrhiza uralensis. Most of them were prenylated flavonoids. Their structures were elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic data analysis. All compounds showed non-cytotoxicity against five human tumor cell lines.

Aldose Reductase Inhibitory Compounds from Glycyrrhiza uralensis
We evaluated the inhibitory effects of components from the root of Glycyrrhiza uralensis (G. uralensis) on aldose reductase (AR) and sorbitol formation in rat lenses with high levels of glucose as part of our ongoing search of natural sources for therapeutic and preventive agents for diabetic complications. In order to identify the bioactive components
