Experimentally-induced border disease in goats

Twelve of 14 pregnant goats were inoculated intramuscularly with a cytopathic strain of bovine virus diarrhoea (BVD) virus at different stages of gestation. All infected goats developed neutralizing antibodies against the virus. Four nannies infected at about 40 days of pregnancy each had an empty uterus when killed after four months of pregnancy.

Hydatid disease in goats in Bangladesh

Abstract A total of 12 344 goats of different ages from various localities of Bangladesh were examined for the presence of hydatid disease and 1024 (8.29%) were found to be infected. The incidence of infection by organ was: liver 36.72%, lungs 32.03%, spleen 4.69%, heart 3.13%, kidney 1.56%, omentum 0.78%, and both liver and lungs 21.09%.

Johne's disease in sheep and goats appears to be common in Ontario dairy sheep and dairy goat herds. The bacterial infection is difficult to diagnose prior to clinical signs appearing. Vaccination will reduce losses due to the disease and will also reduce fecal shedding.

A study was conducted at the Ahmadu Bello University Veterinary Teaching Hospital (ABUVTH), Zaria to document the diseases of goats that occurred in Zaria between January, 1986 and December, 2002. A total of 1247 goats aged between day old to 4 years and reared on free range were treated during the period.

The small number of cases of Aujeszky's disease in goats referred to in the literature is stressed, and an outbreak in goats causing many deaths is reported. The flock of goats concerned was occasionally housed in a barn during the night in which there also were fattening pigs.
