Colonic Barrier Dysfunction and Inflammation Induced by Nano‐/Micro‐Plastics Fibers in Mice via the FAK/NF‐κB/iNOS and TLR4/NF‐κB/iNOS Pathways

open access: yesJournal of Applied Toxicology, Volume 46, Issue 11, Page 4144-4159, November 2026.
ABSTRACT As emerging environmental contaminants, nano‐ and micro‐plastics (NMPs) have drawn increasing research attention due to potential hazards to organisms. Particle shape is a key factor influencing the toxic effects of NMPs, and NMPs of different shapes cause varying degrees of tissue damage. We investigated the specific mechanisms of polystyrene

Invasive stratified mucin-producing carcinoma of the colorectum: expanding the morphologic spectrum of large bowel cancer

open access: yesDiagnostic Pathology, 2023
Background Invasive stratified mucin-producing carcinoma is a recently recognized adenocarcinoma with distinctive features. It was first described in the cervix but similar tumors have since been reported in the penis, anus and prostate.

Clinical outcome with surgical excision of jejunal adenocarcinoma in a 10‐year‐old Vietnamese pot‐bellied pig

open access: yesVeterinary Record Case Reports, Volume 14, Issue 4, November 2026.
Abstract A Vietnamese pot‐bellied pig was assessed for a 1‐week history of anorexia and at least 1 week of no defecation. Contrast‐enhanced abdominal computed tomography revealed a focal intestinal stricture with secondary chronic partial mechanical obstruction. Exploratory laparotomy revealed a 5‐cm mass incorporating the distal jejunum.

Colonic anaplastic soft tissue sarcoma in a western hognose snake (Heterodon nasicus)

open access: yesVeterinary Record Case Reports, Volume 14, Issue 4, November 2026.
Abstract Neoplastic disease is increasingly being recognized in snakes as a cause of morbidity, with gastrointestinal neoplasms being commonly reported. However, clinical signs are often non‐specific making diagnosis challenging. This case describes the first report of a colonic anaplastic soft tissue sarcoma in a western hognose snake (Heterodon ...

Systemic chemotherapy for inoperable Goblet Cell Adenocarcinomas (GCAs)

open access: yesEndocrine Abstracts, 2019
Background: Appendiceal GCAs (previously known as Goblet Cell Carcinoids) are considered to have an unpredictable behaviour; even in node-negative patients, metastases mainly local to the adjacent peritoneum are seen. The systemic chemotherapy (scx) is often borrowed from colon cancer regimens.

Endocervical gastric‐type AIS: a rare histologic finding that further supports the hypothesis of a pyloric‐type metaplastic origin

open access: yesHistopathology, Volume 89, Issue 5, Page 892-894, November 2026.
Background Gastric‐type adenocarcinoma in situ (gAIS) is a rare, HPV‐independent precursor of cervical adenocarcinoma with incompletely defined histogenesis. Aims To report a case of gAIS and its association with pyloric‐type gastric metaplasia. Materials and Methods A case of gAIS in a 70‐year‐old woman with atypical glandular cells (Pap test) and ...

Effect of Zinc Oxide Nanoparticles From Infant Formula Milk Powder on Colon Cells In Vitro

open access: yesJournal of Applied Toxicology, Volume 46, Issue 10, Page 3437-3445, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Zinc is an essential trace element that participates in numerous metabolic processes; however, excessive exposure may interfere with the absorption of other metals, such as copper. In recent years, nanotechnology has experienced rapid growth, and zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) have garnered significant attention due to their versatile ...

Microbiome‐Derived Tryptophan Metabolites Regulate AhR Signaling to Restore Epithelial Barrier Integrity in Inflammatory Bowel Disease

open access: yesMicrobiologyOpen, Volume 15, Issue 5, October 2026.
The graphical abstract illustrates how microbiome‐derived indoles activate the aryl hydrocarbon receptor to restore the intestinal barrier. The picture contrasts the “leaky gut” state with the restored homeostasis achieved through AMPK, Nrf2, and IL‐22 signaling.

Goblet cell carcinoid of the appendix – diagnostic challenges and treatment updates: a case report and review of the literature

open access: yesJournal of Medical Case Reports, 2018
Background Goblet cell carcinoid is a rare but distinct entity of appendiceal tumors which is a hybrid or mixed tumor consisting of both epithelial (glandular) and neuroendocrine elements containing goblet cells. This entity is important to recognize and
