Platinum(II), palladium(II) and gold(III) complexes containing 1,1,4-trisubstituted thiosemicarbazide dianion ligands [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Reactions of cis-[PtCl₂(PPh₃)₂] or [PdCl₂(PPh₃)₂] with Ph₂N---NHC(S)NHPh and excess triethylamine, in refluxing methanol gave the complexes [M{SC(=NPh)NNPh₂}(PPh₃)₂] containing thiosemicarbazide dianion ligands.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

The phytoextraction of gold and palladium from mine tailings : this thesis is presented in fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Philosophy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
The extraction of gold and palladium from a South African mine tailing (Klipfontein) and artificial substrate was examined. A variety of solutions were tested and extractants observed to dissolve large quantities of metal were subsequently used in trials

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Metal-organic framework composites with luminescent gold(III) complexes. Strongly emissive and long-lived excited states in open air and photo-catalysis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The encapsulation of luminescent gold(III) complexes by metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) lays the groundwork for new phosphorescent materials with activities that are not readily achieved by the host MOF materials or gold(III) complexes alone.

Cytoplasmic p21 promotes stemness of colon cancer cells via activation of the NFκB pathway

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cytoplasmic p21 promotes colorectal cancer stem cell (CSC) features by destabilizing the NFκB–IκB complex, activating NFκB signaling, and upregulating BCL‐xL and COX2. In contrast to nuclear p21, cytoplasmic p21 enhances spheroid formation and stemness transcription factor CD133.

Recent Progress on the Gold-Free Integration of Ternary III–As Antimonide Nanowires Directly on Silicon

open access: yesNanomaterials, 2020
During the last few years, there has been renewed interest in the monolithic integration of gold-free, Ternary III–As Antimonide (III–As–Sb) compound semiconductor materials on complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS)—compatible silicon substrate ...
