Validating a molecular clock for nudibranchs-No fossils to the rescue. [PDF]

open access: yesEcol Evol
Here, for the first time, we derive divergence rates for nudibranchs using multigene data from a previously undetected geminate pair, with rates exceeding those reported for shelled gastropods. We also erect a new species designation for the Western Atlantic clade, Chromolaichma hemera sp.

FAUNA ACUÁTICA DEL ÁREA CENTRO OCCIDENTAL DE PANAMÁ

open access: yesTecnociencia, 2006
Entre 1994 y 2006 se realizaron muestreos en diferentes ríos de las en las Provincias de Veraguas, Chiriquí, Herrera y Coclé con el objetivo de levantar información sobre los peces continentales de la región, así como determinar las especies de ...

Ridge Subduction: Unraveling the Consequences Linked to a Slab Window Development Beneath South America at the Chile Triple Junction

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems, Volume 24, Issue 9, September 2023., 2023
Abstract The subduction of an active spreading center generates a clear signature in the temporal evolution of subduction zones. It disrupts the typical arc‐type magmatism and intraplate seismicity, enhances the emplacement of backarc plateau lava and profoundly change the tectonics and topographic relief.

Reassessment of generic boundaries in Neotropical Chrysophylloideae (Sapotaceae): Eleven reinstated genera and narrowed circumscriptions of Chrysophyllum and Pouteria

open access: yesTAXON, Volume 72, Issue 2, Page 307-359, April 2023., 2023
Abstract Classifications of the pantropical plant family Sapotaceae based solely on morphology have historically recognized between 125 and 53 genera. Phylogenetic analyses using molecular data have repeatedly demonstrated that broad concepts of two large genera belonging to subfamily Chrysophylloideae, Chrysophyllum and Pouteria, are untenable and ...

Habitat suitability and area of occupancy defined for rare New World sea snake

open access: yesConservation Science and Practice, Volume 5, Issue 1, January 2023., 2023
Abstract Hydrophis platurus xanthos is a marine reptile endemic to the inner basin of Golfo Dulce, Costa Rica, and one of only two sea snake taxa found in the New World. In this study we assessed several marine conditions that describe its habitat, and we define its geographical distribution range. We used 423 occurrence records of H. p.

Population structure and demographic history of the gastropod Thaisella chocolata (Duclos, 1832) from the Southeast Pacific inferred from mitochondrial DNA analyses

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 12, Issue 9, September 2022., 2022
Here we provide a comprehensive phylogeographical study of a species distributed along the Southeast Pacific coastal region by analyzing the endemic gastropod Thaisella chocolata (Duclos, 1832). Sequencing of mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit 1 (CO1) and 16S rRNA revealed strikingly high haplotypic nucleotide and genetic diversity but a lack ...

Where do the billfish go? Using recreational catch data to relate local and basin scale environmental conditions to billfish occurrence in the Eastern Tropical Pacific

open access: yesFisheries Oceanography, Volume 31, Issue 2, Page 135-148, March 2022., 2022
Abstract Recreational fisheries in the Eastern Tropical Pacific (ETP) have increased in popularity since the 1970s, contributing to the eco‐tourism industries of many Central American economies. However, pelagic gamefish face several direct and indirect threats which can affect population health and sustainability.

More than meets the eye: decrypting diversity reveals hidden interaction specificity between frogs and frog‐biting midges

open access: yesEcological Entomology, Volume 47, Issue 1, Page 95-108, February 2022., 2022
Despite an overall generalist acoustic foraging behavior, Corethrella spp. partitioned frog host resources, and our findings support the presence of both generalist and specialist midge species. Frog‐biting midges discriminate between potential hosts by using additional close‐range recognition cues.

Safe from sunburn: The divergent diel pattern of a Hydrophis sea snake

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 12, Issue 1, January 2022., 2022
We investigated the activity and behavior patterns of the xanthic sea snake, Hydrophis platurus xanthos, which is endemic to the warm fiord‐like embayment of Golfo Dulce, Costa Rica. Data obtained from a systematic visual survey over five 24‐h cycles along with sighting data from several previous studies showed H. p.

Variabilidad espacial del afloramiento en el Golfo de Panamá

open access: yes, 2021
While the seasonal variability of water properties in the Gulf of Panama is relatively well known, processes which rule the spatial variability are poorly understood. In view of this, we aimed to study the spatial variability of the termohaline structure
