Heterokairic Genes and the Eco‐Evo‐Devo of Timing

open access: yesEvolution &Development, Volume 28, Issue 2, June 2026.
Heterokairic genes as the bridge (Heterokairic Pathways?): Heterokairic genes are heterochronic regulators whose activity is modulated by environmental conditions. External cues (e.g., temperature, nutrition, oxygen, density: yellow box) are sensed (yellow arrows) and converted into endocrine and metabolic signals (purple box and arrow into fish's ...

KNDy kisspeptin is required for metabolic homeostasis in female mice in an ovarian hormone‐independent manner

open access: yesJournal of Neuroendocrinology, Volume 38, Issue 6, June 2026.
Abstract Disorders of gonadotropin pulsatility contribute to reproductive dysfunction in humans and are often associated with metabolic dysfunction. Hypogonadotropic hypogonadism is characterized by chronically insufficient gonadotropin hormone production, leading to reproductive and metabolic impairments, such as infertility and obesity.

Photoperiod modulates male sexual maturation in the Emperor tetra (Nematobrycon palmeri), a strictly tropical ornamental fish

open access: yesJournal of the World Aquaculture Society, Volume 57, Issue 3, June 2026.
Abstract Photoperiod manipulation is widely used to regulate reproduction in temperate fish species, but little is known about its effects in strictly tropical species. This study evaluated whether the Emperor tetra (Nematobrycon palmeri), a tropical ornamental fish, can modulate sexual maturation in response to artificial light regimes.

Central precocious puberty and risk of atopic diseases: The mediating role of obesity and sex hormones

open access: yesPediatric Allergy and Immunology, Volume 37, Issue 6, June 2026.
Abstract Background Atopic diseases, including atopic dermatitis, allergic rhinitis, and asthma, are complex inflammatory conditions with increasing prevalence in children. Central precocious puberty (CPP) has also become increasingly common. The potential role of CPP in atopic diseases remains unclear.

Update of the risk assessment on dioxins and dioxin‐like PCBs in feed and food

open access: yesEFSA Journal, Volume 24, Issue 6, June 2026.
Abstract The European Commission asked EFSA to update its 2018 risk assessment on polychlorinated dibenzo‐p‐dioxins and dibenzofurans (PCDD/Fs) and dioxin‐like polychlorinated biphenyls (DL‐PCBs) in feed and food, based on the 2022 WHO Toxic Equivalency Factors (WHO2022‐TEFs).

Immune System Regulation by Gonadal Steroid Hormones

open access: yes, 2015
Autoimmune diseases are more prevalent in women while infectious diseases occur more often in men. Immune system responses differ between genders which suggest that sexual hormones are involved. Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune disease with one of the greatest female sex bias. The etiology of the disease remains poorly defined.
