Gonadal Steroid Hormones and Hypothalamic Opioid Circuitry

Hormones and Behavior, 1994
Endogenous opioid peptides derived from several gene families are localized within hypothalamic regions known to be involved in the regulation of reproduction. For example, the proenkephalin gene products, met- and leu-enkephalin, and the proopiomelanocortin (POMC) gene product, beta-endorphin, are found in the rat medial preoptic area (MPOA). Moreover,

Regulation of Growth Hormone Action by Gonadal Steroids

Endocrinology and Metabolism Clinics of North America, 2007
Sex steroids modulate growth hormone (GH) secretion and action. Estrogen attenuates GH action in a dose- and route-dependent manner by inhibiting GH-regulated endocrine function of the liver. Testosterone amplifies the metabolic action of GH while exhibiting similar but independent effects of its own. The strong modulatory effect of gonadal steroids on

Identification and biosynthesis of steroid hormones in the gonads ofCiona intestinalis

Experientia, 1971

Effects of gonadal hormones on adrenal steroid metabolism in vitro

Steroids, 1972
Abstract The effects of gonadal hormones on adrenal steroidogenesis were studied in vitro . Cholesterol side-chain cleavage activity was stimulated by orchiectomy and the effect was reversed by testosterone replacement. Neither ovariectomy nor estradiol administration affected the reaction.

Hypothalamic Imprinting by Gonadal Steroid Hormones

2002
The results of more than four decades of research on different mammalian species have established that the brain, like the rest of the reproductive system, is esentially basically female. For the male to develop structural and functional characteristics typical of his species, his brain must be exposed to testicular hormones during a critical period ...
