Marine flatworms as windows into the evolution of bilaterian neuropeptide signalling

open access: yesJournal of Neuroendocrinology, Volume 38, Issue 9, September 2026.
Abstract The evolutionary origin(s) of neuropeptide signalling is still largely unknown. It has been hypothesised that signal transmission via neuropeptides played a crucial role in the regulation of nervous systems in the bilaterian ancestor. Identification, expression and functional analyses of neuropeptides and their receptors across different ...

Intracerebroventricular injection of neuropeptide Y suppresses luteinizing hormone pulses in mice

open access: yesJournal of Neuroendocrinology, Volume 38, Issue 9, September 2026.
Abstract Stress impairs reproduction, at least in part, by inhibition of Kisspeptin/Neurokinin B/Dynorphin (KNDy) cells and suppression of gonadotropin secretion. However, the mechanism for this inhibition is not clear. Neuropeptide Y (NPY) is a pleiotropic molecule that is produced in neurons throughout the brain and mediates several physiological ...

Voltage‐gated calcium channel activity of gonadotropin‐releasing hormone (GnRH) neurons is altered by age and by prenatal androgen exposure in female mice

open access: yesJournal of Neuroendocrinology, Volume 38, Issue 9, September 2026.
Abstract Polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome (PMOS), a common cause of infertility, is marked by persistently high luteinizing hormone (LH) pulse frequency, presumably driven by high‐frequency GnRH pulses. Prenatally androgenized (PNA) mice mimic neuroendocrine PMOS symptoms including high LH‐pulse frequency.

Dietary L‐Tyrosine Sustains Egg Production and Quality by Modulating Promoter CpG Methylation, Gene Expression, and Hormone Profiles in Reproductive Signalling Pathways of Aged Laying Hens

open access: yesJournal of Animal Physiology and Animal Nutrition, Volume 110, Issue 5, Page 685-698, September 2026.
ABSTRACT Managing prolactin (PRL)‐mediated reproductive suppression is critical for maintaining egg production in commercial laying hens. L‐tyrosine (TYR), a precursor of dopamine (DA), may counteract age‐related reproductive decline by suppressing PRL, thereby sustaining productivity and egg quality in late‐phase laying hens.

Fish Sperm Subpopulations Detection, Separation, and Application: Current State and Trends

open access: yesReviews in Aquaculture, Volume 18, Issue 4, September 2026.
Modern advances in sperm biology highlight the necessity of recognising intra‐ejaculate heterogeneity as a central concept for advancing both the fundamental understanding of fertilisation processes and the development of artificial reproduction techniques in fishes. ABSTRACT Sperm subpopulations represent a fundamental manifestation of intra‐ejaculate

Spaceborne and spaceborn: Physiological aspects of pregnancy and birth during interplanetary flight

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, Volume 111, Issue 9, Page 4015-4040, 1 September 2026.
Abstract Crewed interplanetary return missions that are on the planning horizon will take years, more than enough time for initiation and completion of a pregnancy. Pregnancy is viewed as a sequence of processes – fertilization, blastocyst formation, implantation, gastrulation, placentation, organogenesis, gross morphogenesis, birth and neonatal ...
