Structure of reproductive apparatus of Gracilaria/Gracilariopsis lemaneiformis (Gracilariaceae, Rhodophyta)

Science in China Series C: Life Sciences, 2008
Reproductive apparatus of Gracilaria/Gracilariopsis lemaneiformis collected from Qingdao city were studied with a light and a transmission electron microscope. The special superficial arrangement of spermatangium for this species was clearly observed, and the ultrastructure of spermatangial development revealed the similar cytodynamic pattern followed ...

Phylogeny of Gracilariaceae (Rhodophyta): evidence from plastid and mitochondrial nucleotide sequences

Journal of Phycology, 2015
Gracilariaceae are mostly pantropical red algae and include ~230 species in seven genera. Infrafamilial classification of the group has long been based on reproductive characters, but previous phylogenies have shown that traditionally circumscribed groups are not monophyletic.

Agar polysaccharides from Gracilaria species (Rhodophyta, Gracilariaceae)

Journal of Biotechnology, 2001
Yield, physical and chemical properties of agar from three agarophytes species (Gracilaria gracilis, G. dura and G. bursa-pastoris) were determined.

Long interspersed elements in three species of Gracilaria (Gracilariaceae, Rhodophyta)

Chinese Journal of Oceanology and Limnology, 2007
In order to find out whether long interspersed elements (LINEs) existed in macro-algae genomes or not, we tested the LINE homologues in representative families (species): Gracilaria (G. eucheumoides Harv., G. tenuistipitata Chang et Xia, and G. textorii (Sur) De-Toni), Laminaria (L. longissima Miyabe and L. japonica Aresch.), and Ulva (U.

DIVERSITY OF GRACILARIACEAE (RHODOPHYTA) IN BRAZIL: INTEGRATING MORPHOLOGICAL AND MOLECULAR DATA

Phytotaxa, 2021
The Gracilariaceae comprises 242 mainly tropical species, including some with significant economic value for the food and pharmaceutical industry. Accurate taxonomy is crucial for the selection of species for cultivation. However, species identification is still challenging taxonomists.

Approaches to the identification of terete Brazilian Gracilariaceae (Gracilariales, Rhodophyta)

Hydrobiologia, 1996
Most of the agar production in the world now comes from terete species of Gracilariaceae, a notoriously difficult group with regard to species circumscription. We have studied different populations of such algae from Brazil and from abroad in order to ascertain their identity and relationship.

Observations on Flattened Species of Gracilaria (Gracilariaceae, Rhodophyta) from Taiwan

Journal of Applied Phycology, 2006
Four flattened Gracilaria species have been reported from Taiwan: G. spinulosa, G. vieillardii, G. textorii and G. punctata, identified based on branching pattern, the presence or absence of spines, and characters that often vary seasonally. Gracilaria spinulosa was originally described from the type locality, Tainan.

Mitochondrial cox1 and plastid rbcL genes of Gracilaria vermiculophylla (Gracilariaceae, Rhodophyta)

Journal of Applied Phycology, 2007
The mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit I gene sequence was recently developed for DNA barcoding of red algal species. We determined the 1245 base pairs of the gene from 27 taxa of an agar-producing species, Gracilaria vermiculophylla, and putative relatives and compared the results with rbcL data from the same species. A total of 392 positions (

Identification of Gracilariaceae (Rhodophyta) of central Portugal by histological and genetic methods

Botanica Marina, 2021
Abstract This study aims to identify different populations of Gracilariaceae collected from the central coast of Portugal through light microscopy, anatomical observations and genetic tools, essential approaches to correctly assign species identity. Samples were obtained from Ria de Aveiro (AV), Figueira da Foz (FFBC, FFMD), and Lagoa de
