The mixed problem in the theory of strain gradient thermoelasticity approached with the Lagrange identity

open access: yesBoundary Value Problems, 2020
In our paper we address the thermoelasticity theory of the strain gradient. First, we define the mixed problem with initial and boundary data in this context.

Two-dimensional flows of foam: drag exerted on circular obstacles and dissipation

open access: yes, 2004
A Stokes experiment for foams is proposed. It consists in a two-dimensional flow of a foam, confined between a water subphase and a top plate, around a fixed circular obstacle. We present systematic measurements of the drag exerted by the flowing foam on

Peptide‐based ligand antagonists block a Vibrio cholerae adhesin

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The structure of a peptide‐binding domain of the Vibrio cholerae adhesin FrhA was solved by X‐ray crystallography, revealing how the inhibitory peptide AGYTD binds tightly at its Ca2+‐coordinated pocket. Structure‐guided design incorporating D‐amino acids enhanced binding affinity, providing a foundation for developing anti‐adhesion therapeutics ...

Models for vertical wood density of Scots pine, Norway spruce and birch stems, and their application to determine average wood density

open access: yesSilva Fennica, 2006
The purpose of this study was to investigate the vertical dependence of the basic density of Scots pine, Norway spruce, and birch stems, and how such dependence could be applied for determining the average stem wood density.

On a parabolic–elliptic system with gradient dependent chemotactic coefficient [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Differential Equations, 2018
We consider a second order PDEs system of Parabolic-Elliptic type with chemotactic terms. The system describes the evolution of a biological species "$u$" moving towards a higher concentration of a chemical stimuli "$v$" in a bounded and open domain of $ \mathcal{R}^N$. In the system considered, the chemotaxis sensitivity depends on the gradient of $v$,

Real‐time assay of ribonucleotide reductase activity with a fluorescent RNA aptamer

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ribonucleotide reductases (RNR) synthesize DNA building blocks de novo, making them crucial in DNA replication and drug targeting. FLARE introduces the first single‐tube real‐time coupled RNR assay, which enables isothermal tracking of RNR activity at nanomolar enzyme levels and allows the reconstruction of allosteric regulatory patterns and rapid ...

Resonant optical gradient force interaction for nano-imaging and -spectroscopy

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2016
The optical gradient force provides optomechanical interactions, for particle trapping and manipulation, as well as for near-field optical imaging in scanning probe microscopy.

Integer Discontinuity of Density Functional Theory

open access: yes, 2014
Density functional approximations to the exchange-correlation energy of Kohn-Sham theory, such as the local density approximation and generalized gradient approximations, lack the well-known integer discontinuity, a feature that is critical to describe ...

PARP inhibitors elicit distinct transcriptional programs in homologous recombination competent castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
PARP inhibitors are used to treat a small subset of prostate cancer patients. These studies reveal that PARP1 activity and expression are different between European American and African American prostate cancer tissue samples. Additionally, different PARP inhibitors cause unique and overlapping transcriptional changes, notably, p53 pathway upregulation.

Impurity transport in trapped electron mode driven turbulence

open access: yes, 2013
Trapped electron mode turbulence is studied by gyrokinetic simulations with the GYRO code and an analytical model including the effect of a poloidally varying electrostatic potential. Its impact on radial transport of high-Z trace impurities close to the
