Ultra‐Fine 3D Bioprinting of Dynamic Hyaluronic Acid Hydrogel for in Vitro Modeling

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
3D bioprinting merges tissue engineering and additive manufacturing to create biological structures. A bioink is developed by modifying hyaluronic acid, a natural extracellular matrix polymer, with cysteine. Potassium iodide is later added to tune gelation kinetics, enabling fine printing with a 32G needle.

3D Wiring Microelectrodes in a PMMA Microfluidic Device by Vacuum Filling Method

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
This paper proposes a method for fabricating 3D wiring microelectrodes in arbitrary designs within 3D‐printed microfluidics. By attaching a PDMS lid and using vacuum filling, low‐melting‐point alloy (LMA) is introduced into microchannels. This enables the creation of 50 µm microelectrodes, including complex shapes.

Graduate education in optics in Japan and the United States: impact of funding levels on educational structure [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
We compare the optical science & engineering educational environments at two universities in two countries: Utsunomiya University in Japan, and the University of Arizona in the United States. Because the university education systems in the two countries are so different, we also explain how financial arrangements drive many of these differences and ...

Self‐Folded Corrugated Origami Sensor Based on Triboelectric Nanogenerator for a Smart Cushioning Device

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
A corrugated origami TENG (CO‐TENG) soft sensor utilizes paper self‐folding technology to create battery‐free devices by laminating and folding sheet materials. In the object drop test, the voltage generated by CO‐TENG is classified with machine learning to achieve an accuracy of 98.9%, which shows its potential for smart cushioning devices.

Synthesis and Optical Properties of Single‐Crystalline Phosphors Gd3In2Ga3O12:RE3+ (RE = Nd3+ and Ho3+) Grown via the Optical Float Zone Method

open access: yesAdvanced Photonics Research, EarlyView.
Nd3+‐ and Ho3+‐doped Gd3In2Ga3O12 single crystals have been successfully synthesized via the optical float zone method. Their structure and optical characterization demonstrate efficient narrow‐line 4f–4f emission, low cross‐relaxation, and bright photoluminescence, indicating their potential as advanced optical materials for photonic applications. The
