Allografts Surviving for 26 to 29 Years Following Living-Related Kidney Transplantation: Analysis by Light Microscopy, In Situ Hybridization for the Y Chromosome, and Anti-HLA Antibodies [PDF]

open access: yes, 1994
We studied seven patients aged 14 to 40 years who received living-related kidney transplants and had allograft survivals of 26 to 29 years. The blood urea and creatinine were either within normal limits or marginally elevated. Histopathologic examination

Results of the kidney transplant programme at the University Clinical Centre of the Republic of Srpska from 2010 to 2018 [PDF]

open access: yesScripta Medica, 2019
Background: Kidney transplantation is the best treatment for patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD). The aim of the study was to show the results of kidney transplantation performed in the University Clinical Centre of the Republic of Srpska in the

The critical role of DNA damage‐inducible transcript 4 (DDIT4) in stemness character of leukemia cells and leukemia initiation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Stemness properties, including quiescence, self‐renewal, and chemoresistance, are closely associated with leukemia relapse. Here, we demonstrate that DNA damage‐inducible transcript 4 (DDIT4) is induced in the hypoxic bone marrow niche and is essential for maintaining the stemness of AML1‐ETO9a leukemia cells.

Comparative long-term evaluation of tacrolimus and cyclosporine in pediatric liver transplantation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
Background. In this report, we compare the long-term outcome of pediatric liver transplantation (LTx) patients maintained with tacrolimus-based and with cyclosporine (CsA)-based immunosuppressive therapy.

Modeling Long-Term Graft Survival With Time-Varying Covariate Effects: An Application to a Single Kidney Transplant Centre in Johannesburg, South Africa

open access: yesFrontiers in Public Health, 2019
Objectives: Patients' characteristics that could influence graft survival may also exhibit non-constant effects over time; therefore, violating the important assumption of the Cox proportional hazard (PH) model.

Beyond digital twins: the role of foundation models in enhancing the interpretability of multiomics modalities in precision medicine

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This review highlights how foundation models enhance predictive healthcare by integrating advanced digital twin modeling with multiomics and biomedical data. This approach supports disease management, risk assessment, and personalized medicine, with the goal of optimizing health outcomes through adaptive, interpretable digital simulations, accessible ...

Prolonged Allogeneic Islet Graft Survival by Protoporphyrins

open access: yesCell Transplantation, 2005
Transplantation of islets of Langerhans in patients with type 1 diabetes allows for improved metabolic control and insulin independence. The need for chronic immunosuppression limits this procedure to selected patients with brittle diabetes.

Donor-specific antibodies require preactivated immune system to harm renal transplant

open access: yesEBioMedicine, 2016
Background: It is an unresolved issue why some kidney transplant recipients with pretransplant donor-specific HLA antibodies (DSA) show a high transplant failure rate, whereas in other patients DSA do not harm the graft. We investigated whether help from

Xenon Treatment Protects Against Cold Ischemia Associated Delayed Graft Function and Prolongs Graft Survival in Rats

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Transplantation, 2013
Prolonged hypothermic storage causes ischemia‐reperfusion injury (IRI) in the renal graft, which is considered to contribute to the occurrence of the delayed graft function (DGF) and chronic graft failure. Strategies are required to protect the graft and
