Manipulation of Macrophage Uptake by Controlling the Aspect Ratio of Graft Copolymer Micelles

Nano Letters
Nanostructures of drug carriers play a crucial role in nanomedicine due to their ability to influence drug delivery. There is yet no clear consensus regarding the optimal size and shape (e.g., aspect ratio) of nanoparticles for minimizing macrophage uptake, given the difficulties in controlling the shape and size of nanoparticles while maintaining ...

Viability of Osteochondral Grafts as Determined by Uptake of S35

The Journal of Bone & Joint Surgery, 1963
1. When osteochondral grafts of the femoral head measuring three to five millimeters in thickness were placed in a functional position on the neck of the femur in dogs, the osseous portion of the graft was accepted by the host. Although most if not all of the cellular elements died, complete replacement of the graft bone by host bone occurred. This was

Uptake of mercury by thiol-grafted chitosan gel beads

Water Research, 2004
This study describes the synthesis and characterization of thiol-grafted chitosan beads for use as mercury (Hg) adsorbents. Chitosan flakes were dissolved and formed into spherical beads using a phase inversion technique, then crosslinked to improve their porosity and chemical stability.

Calcium uptake by sarcoplasmic reticulum of muscle grafts in rats

Experimental Neurology, 1984
Cross transplantations were carried out in which the soleus (SOL) and extensor digitorum longus (EDL) muscles were switched to each other's muscle bed. Sixty days later, oxalate-supported calcium uptake was measured in homogenates of these grafts and compared with calcium uptake by homogenates of the contralateral control EDL and SOL muscles.

Peptide‐Grafted Nanodiamonds: Preparation, Cytotoxicity and Uptake in Cells

ChemBioChem, 2008
AbstractNanodiamonds that were prepared by high pressure/high temperature were functionalised with biomolecules for biological applications. Nanodiamonds (NDs, ≤35 nm) that were coated by silanisation or with polyelectrolyte layers were grafted with a fluorescent thiolated peptide via a maleimido function; this led to an aqueous colloidal suspension ...

Lipid uptake across the wall of an expanded polytetrafluoroethylene vascular graft

Journal of Biomedical Materials Research, 1999
Previous studies have shown that vascular grafts were prone to inducing an atherosclerosis-like phenomenon, thus possibly jeopardizing their performance. Furthermore, lipid retention, observed in most synthetic arterial prostheses explanted from humans, appears to have an important role in the progression of this atherosclerotic process, therefore ...

Elevated Iodine Uptake at Autogenous Bone Graft Harvest Sites

Clinical Nuclear Medicine, 2012
A 16-year-old adolescent girl post total thyroidectomy for papillary thyroid carcinoma presented for postsurgical radioablative therapy. A whole-body I scintigraphy revealed not only expected activity in the thyroid bed but also asymmetric tracer distribution in the mandible and 2 foci of increased I accumulation in the distal left lower extremity ...
