Dietary Protein Intake and Peritoneal Protein Losses in Peritoneal Dialysis Patients
ABSTRACT Introduction Peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients lose protein in their waste dialysate, potentially increasing their risk for malnutrition. We wished to determine whether there was any association between losses and dietary protein intake (DPI). Methods DPI was assessed from 24‐h dietary recall using Nutrics software.

ABSTRACT Background Therapeutic apheresis (TA) is an established treatment modality for hematologic, neurologic, and immunologic disorders, yet access remains severely limited in sub‐Saharan Africa. Donor apheresis, including platelet apheresis collection from healthy donors, represents an important complementary modality supporting blood product ...

The use of FK-506 for small intestine llotransplantation: Inhibition of acute rejection and prevention of fatal graft-versus-host disease [PDF]
Small intestine allotransplantation in humans is not yet feasible due to the failure of the current methods of immunosuppression. FK-506, a powerful new immunosuppressive agent that is synergistic with cyclosporine, allows long-term survival of ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Early tolerance in pediatric liver allograft recipients [PDF]
The authors report on six pediatric liver transplant recipients for whom allograft tolerance occurred shortly after transplantation (ie, less than 1.5 years). All the patients had associated life-threatening viral complications.

Autologous Skin Grafts in the Rat. Uptake of 35S-sulfate.
SummarySynthesis of sulfomucopolysaccharides, represented by uptake of 35S-sulfate into full-thickness skin autografts and skin of rats 48 hours after intraperitoneal injection of radioactively labeled sulfate was studied. Three and 5 days after surgery, the uptake into grafts was reduced as compared to that into symmetrical skin.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

A study of graft uptake rate of myringoplasties in Bir Hospital
Chronic suppurative otitis media-tubotympanic type is one of the commonest ear diseases in the practice of otolaryngology. It mainly occurs in the people with poor socio-economic conditions hence, its magnitude is immense in remote areas of Nepal where poverty prevails the most and in people who do not have access to health facilities.

Association of Bolster Duration With Uptake Rates of Fibula Donor Site Skin Grafts [PDF]
The fibula free flap donor site is associated with both short-term and long-term morbidity. Split-thickness skin graft (STSG) loss can lead to long delays in donor site healing and is associated with significant adverse sequelae. Patients may experience initial good STSG uptake after bolster removal but may have subsequent partial or total loss related
