grafting increase watermelon seedling chilling tolerance
2021The experiment was carried out at Huazhong Agricultural University (Wuhan, China). The watermelon line 97103 (Citrullus lanatus, a chilling-sensitive inbred line) was used as the scion and the pumpkin Qingyan No.1 (Cucurbita maxima C. moschata, a chilling tolerant cultivar) was used as the rootstock.

Aroma compounds in mini‐watermelon fruits from different grafting combinations
Journal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, 2019AbstractBACKGROUNDIn recent years, mini‐watermelons have increased in popularity. To maintain production and quality standards, various agronomic techniques have been applied. For the Cucurbitaceae family, grafting technique has been used to improve resistance to abiotic stresses, crop productivity and fruit qualitative characteristics.

Characterization of Fusarium root rot disease in grafted watermelon
European Journal of Plant Pathology, 2020Root rot is an emerging disease of grafted watermelon in China that causes severe yield losses. The causal agents associated with this disease were characterized in this study. A total of 70 fungal isolates were recovered from infected roots, and the most prevalent isolates were identified as Fusarium oxysporum (31% of isolates recovered). F. oxysporum

Journal of Plant Growth Regulation, 2016
Grafting is commonly used to relieve damage caused by soil-borne diseases and to enhance the nutrient uptake in watermelon plants. Certain reports have shown the proteomic changes of plant tissues involved in grafting, while little information about the secretome after watermelon grafting is available.

RESPONSES OF GRAFTED WATERMELON ONTO DIFFERENT GOURD SPECIES TO SALINITY STRESS
Journal of Plant Nutrition, 2010The watermelon cultivar ‘Crimson Tide’ was grafted onto three different rootstocks and grown under saline conditions to investigate effects of salinity on grafted and non-grafted watermelon. One Cucurbita maxima and 2 Lagenarai siceraria landraces (Skp and Brecik) were used as rootstock.

An overview on watermelon grafting in Turkey
2010Fruit bearing vegetables have been grafted for many years in East Asia to solve problems associated with intensive cultivation using limited agricultural land. Grafting in vegetables was introduced to Turkey in the late 20th century. The first experiment on grafting was conducted on tomato in Turkey in 1989 and following years in watermelon. Watermelon

Rootstock grafting may improve the resistance of watermelon plants to low temperatures. However, information regarding the molecular responses of rootstock grafted plants to chilling stress is limited. To elucidate the molecular mechanisms of chilling tolerance in grafted plants, the transcriptomic responses of grafted watermelon under chilling stress ...

Investigation on fruit quality of grafted watermelon
2019In this study, grafted and ungrafted watermelon cultivars were grown in Cukurova region to determine fruit pH, titratable acidity, soluble solids, yantioxidant activity, total phenolic compounds and analysis of sensory evaluation. The highest soluble solids (11.32%) and titratable acidity 0.190 g/100g were in seedless cultivars. The highest antioxidant

Accumulation of WeatheredP,P′-DDE in Xylem Sap Of Grafted Watermelon
International Journal of Phytoremediation, 2012Movement of weathered p,p'-dichlorodiphenyldichloroethane (p,p'-DDE) from contaminated soil to the rhizosphere pore water to the xylem sap of grafted watermelon was studied under green house conditions. p,p'-DDE concentrations in pore water and xylem sap was compared in intact plants, homografted, and compatible heterografts of Cucurbita pepo spp. pepo

Storage and self life of grafted watermelon
2010Watermelon [Citrullus lanatus (Thunb.) Matsum. & Nakai] fruits from ‘Crimson Tide’ (CT) grafted onto Ferro, RS841, Argentario, and Macis rootstocks and ungrafted CT were compared for their postharvest quality after the following treatments: (1) 7 days at 21°C; (2) 7 days at 27°C; (3) 21 days at 0°C; (4) 21 days at 0°C and subsequent 7 days at 21°C; (5)
