The Elimination of Grains and Grain Boundaries in Grain Growth

Interface Science, 1997
The topological changes that occur during coarsening of 2D and 3Dcellular structures, such as polycrystals, areinvestigated. Particular attention is given to the elimination ofgrain boundaries and grains with more than the minimum number oftopological elements.

Grain-Grain Coagulation in the ISM [PDF]

open access: possibleEAS Publications Series, 2002
We have developed a dust emission model in order to reproduce the evolution of the far-infrared (FIR) to sub-millimetre (sub-mm) dust emission properties which is observed in the transition between the diffuse and the dense interstellar medium (ISM). We propose that the coagulation of grains into fluffy aggregates could be the process responsible for ...

Metabolites of Lesser Grain Borer in Grains

Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, 2004
Many volatile alcohol and ester metabolites of the lesser grain borer (LGB, Rhyzopertha dominica) cultured on wheat grain were identified. Volatiles from infested samples at 80 degrees C were collected on Tenax absorbent, thermally desorbed, and analyzed by gas chromatography (GC) using infrared (IR) and mass (MS) detectors for component identification.

Contaminants of Grain

2004
Grain for processing should be clean and free of contaminants, but realistically, there may be many nongrain materials present. These materials cover a wide range: seeds of other crops and of weeds, insects and animal products, infected and defective grains, agricultural chemicals, and tainting substances.

Coagulation of grains and gas-grain interactions

Advances in Space Research, 1995
Three-dimensional off-lattice Monte Carlo simulations have been used to simulate the production of interstellar dust analogues on the computer. At first, the two rather well known extreme cases of ballistic growth, i.e. particle-cluster (BPCA) and cluster-cluster aggregation (BCCA) were investigated.

3DXRD: Grain Maps, Grain Dynamics and Grain Refinements

Crystallography Reviews, 2004
The three-dimensional X-ray diffraction (3DXRD) method is reviewed. The method is based on the use of high-energy X-rays from synchrotron sources and a ‘tomographic’ approach to diffraction. With 3DXRD the structure of the embedded grains within polycrystals or powders can be characterised non-destructively within millimetre to centimetre size ...

The effect of grain moisture on grain germination during grain storage

ACADEMICIA: An International Multidisciplinary Research Journal, 2021
In this article, the quality indicators of seed materials in the preparation for planting autumn seeds were analysed. The importance of sorting seeds according to state standards for moisture, purity, fertility and other indicators, a serious approach to the storage of seed materials and timely qualitative preparation has been studied.

A grain of sand [PDF]

open access: possiblePsychiatric Services, 1995
Being raised in a family of sharecroppers(slavery’s next-door neighbor) in South Carolina, I always thought that I was “Something Else” because I had traveled extensively. I bad been to Africa, my motherland, and had conversed with men and women of influence and wisdom.

Measuring and Modeling Grain, Grain Boundary and Grain Edge Average Curvature and their Application to Grain Growth

Materials Science Forum, 2007
Alongside volume fraction, VV, and area per unit of volume, SV, the integral interface curvature per unit of volume, MV, or the average interface curvature, H, are important microstructural descriptors. For grain growth, the grain boundary curvature is of special importance because, in addition to its geometrical significance, it is also the driving ...
