Accumulation of Deep Traps at Grain Boundaries in Halide Perovskites [PDF]

open access: yesACS Energy Letters, 2019
The behaviour of grain boundaries in polycrystalline halide perovskite solar cells remains poorly understood. Whereas theoretical studies indicate that grain boundaries are not active for electron-hole recombination, there have been ...

Design Principles for Grain Boundaries in Solid‐State Lithium‐Ion Conductors [PDF]

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, 2023
Although polycrystalline solid electrolytes are central to the utilization of solid- state batteries with lithium metal anodes, lithium dendrite formation and reduced Li-ion conductivity at their grain boundaries remain primary concerns.

Grain boundary inhomogeneity and grain boundary heterodiffusion

Philosophical Magazine A, 1995
It is shown that the inhomogeneity of the grain boundary (GB) i.e. the effect of the distribution of different lattice sites on the heats of interaction with species, leads to nonlinear GB penetration plots (in Fisher's coordinates). The sign of curvature and the values of deviation from a straight concentration profile depend on the interaction ...

EVOLUTION OF GRAIN BOUNDARIES

Mathematical Models and Methods in Applied Sciences, 2001
Evolution and trend to equilibrium of a (planar) network of grain boundaries subject to curvature driven growth is established under the assumption that the system is initially close to some equilibrium configuration. Curvature driven growth is the primary mechanism in processing polycrystalline materials to achieve desired texture, ductility ...

Grain boundary segregation and grain-boundary heterodiffusion

Philosophical Magazine A, 1992
Abstract It is shown that nonlinear segregation effects (saturation, interaction of species) lead to nonlinear grain-boundary penetration plots. If the diffusion penetration depth is larger than a critical value, the concentration profiles become linear.

Grain Boundary Sliding at Serrated Grain Boundaries

Advanced Performance Materials, 1997
A constitutive model is developed for grain boundary sliding (GBS) at serrated grain boundaries. Based on a previously developed GBS model, using the dynamics of grain boundary dislocation pile-up, the present model takes the average of the sliding rate over the characteristic dimensions of grain boundary serrations.

Dislocations in grain boundaries and grain boundary sliding

Acta Metallurgica, 1967
Abstract The Burgers vectors of grain boundary dislocations were analyzed by transmission electron microscopy in creep tested iron and iron alloys. The analysis indicates that the dislocations retain their original Burgers vectors when joining grain boundaries and remain undissociated. It is suggested that grain boundary sliding in creep is caused by

Grain Boundary Grooving as an Indicator of Grain Boundary Phase Transformations

Interface Science, 2001
The atomic force microscopy (AFM) was used to study the grain boundary (GB) groove profiles far away from the melting temperature T m. It is shown that AFM allows one to measure the temperature dependence of the GB energy in a rather broad temperature interval (from 0.85 T m to T m). The GB energy and GB segregation of Bi were measured at 1123 K in the
