Gradient grain growth.

, 2020
Inhomogeneous material properties such as corrosion resistance, strength and creep can be found in cast or formed metals which are heat treated. The spatial variation comes from the gradient in grain sizes, which is a problem for any industry which forms/bends high strength metals such as in petrochemical refinery.

Grain growth kinetics in CoCrFeNi and CoCrFeMnNi high entropy alloys processed by spark plasma sintering

Journal of Alloys and Compounds, 2019
Nanocrystalline CoCrFeNi and CoCrFeMnNi high entropy alloys have been processed by mechanical alloying followed by spark plasma sintering. Grain growth kinetics has been estimated for both the alloys by subjecting them to heat treatment in the ...

Competitive grain growth and dendrite morphology evolution in selective laser melting of Inconel 718 superalloy

Journal of Crystal Growth, 2019
Microstructure control is a great challenge for selective laser melting (SLM) mainly because of nonuniform and ultra-rapid heating and cooling in the process.

Coupling between grain growth and grain rotation

Applied Physics Letters, 2007
Grain boundary motion during grain growth or recrystallization is considered as a diffusion process of atomic movement across the boundary. It can be accompanied by subgrain rotation or nanograin rotation. However, grain boundary migration can be achieved also by dislocation motion or creep.

The influence of grain growth inhibitors on the microstructure and properties of submicron, ultrafine and nano-structured hardmetals – A review

International Journal of Refractory Metals and Hard Materials, 2018
The rapid coarsening of ultrafine and nanocrystalline WC powders during consolidation has challenged the production of bulk nano-structured hardmetals for decades.
