The role of grain dynamics in determining the onset of sediment transport

open access: yes, 2017
Sediment transport occurs when the nondimensional fluid shear stress $\Theta$ at the bed surface exceeds a minimum value $\Theta_c$. A large collection of data, known as the Shields curve, shows that $\Theta_c$ is primarily a function of the shear ...

Deformation of continental crust along a transform boundary, Coast Mountains, British Columbia [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
New structural, paleomagnetic, and apatite (U-Th)/He results from the continental margin inboard of the Queen Charlotte fault (~54°N) delineate patterns of brittle faulting linked to transform development since ~50 Ma.

Understanding Further the Phenotypic Spectrum of Central Nervous System Inflammatory Demyelinating Disorders Using Unsupervised Clustering

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Central nervous system (CNS) inflammatory demyelinating syndromes, including multiple sclerosis (MS), aquaporin‐4 antibody–positive neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (AQP4 + NMOSD), and myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein (MOG) antibody–associated disease (MOGAD), occasionally overlap.

The role of slip transfer at grain boundaries in the propagation of microstructurally short fatigue cracks in Ni-based superalloys

open access: yes, 2018
Crack initiation and propagation under high-cycle fatigue conditions have been investigated for a polycrystalline Ni-based superalloy by in-situ synchrotron assisted diffraction and phase contrast tomography.

Mechanisms of grain refinement by intensive shearing of AZ91 alloy melt [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The official published version of the article can be accessed at the link below. It has been demonstrated recently that intensive melt shearing can be an effective approach to the grain refinement of both shape casting and continuous casting of Mg alloys.

Spatial and Volumetric Characteristics of Glioblastoma: Associations With Clinical Presentation and Survival

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective We aim to comprehensively analyze how regional tumor and edema characteristics are associated with clinical presentations and survival outcomes in a large cohort of glioblastoma patients. Methods Patients with IDH‐wildtype glioblastoma who received brain MRI from 2010 to 2023 were included.

Influence of Residual Stresses on the Crack Initiation and Short Crack Propagation in a Martensitic Spring Steel

open access: yesMetals, 2022
The crack initiation and short crack propagation in a martensitic spring steel were investigated by means of in-situ fatigue testing. Shot peened samples as well as untreated samples were exposed to uniaxial alternating stress to analyze the impact of ...

Experimental Evaluation of 100Cr6 Steel Microindented Surfaces Under Lubricated Nonconformal Point Contacts

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The tribological behavior of 100Cr6 steel spheres textured via Vickers microindentation is evaluated under lubricated sliding by varying both dimple size and density. Fine and dense textures significantly reduce friction across all lubrication regimes, while large dimples increase it.

Altering tensile and crack initiation behavior in a metastable β titanium alloy via designing grain size and precipitates

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology
Microstructure can play a vital role in defining mechanical properties of metallic materials. To elucidate this correlation in the case of Ti–15Mo–3Nb–3Al-0.2Si (TB8) alloy, herein, we designed various microstructures via heat treatment exploring the ...

Effect of Drought Stress at Different Growth Stages on Yield and Yield Components of Six Rice (Oryza sativa L.) Genotypes

open access: yesFundamental and Applied Agriculture, 2017
Drought stress affects plant growth and development and ultimately, reduced grain yield of rice. But stress at different growth stages may respond differently which is still unclear.
