Microstructure and refinement mechanism of Al–5Ti–1B alloys

open access: yesFenmo yejin jishu, 2022
Two kinds of Al–5Ti–1B alloys were prepared by powder mixing + hot extrusion and powder mixing + gas atomization + hot extrusion, respectively. The microstructures of the Al–5Ti–1B alloys prepared by two kinds of processes were studied, and the grain ...

A comparative study of the role of solute, potent particles and ultrasonic treatment during solidification of pure Mg, Mg–Zn and Mg–Zr alloys

open access: yesJournal of Magnesium and Alloys, 2021
Ultrasonic treatment (UST) applied during the solidification of pure Mg, eutectic (Mg – Zn) and peritectic (Mg – Zr) alloys was investigated in order to explore the grain refinement mechanisms.

Grain Refinement of Al-5Ti-0.62C-0.2Nd Grain Refiner for Commercial Pure Aluminum and Its Effect on Mechanical Properties [PDF]

open access: yesMaterials Research, 2018
It is well known that the mechanical properties of commercial pure Al are influenced by size of α-Al dendrites. In the present work, Al-5Ti-0.62C-0.2Nd grain refiner was prepared by a pure molten aluminum thermal explosion reaction, and its effect on ...

The Mechanism of Inhomogeneous Grain Refinement in a NiTiFe Shape Memory Alloy Subjected to Single-Pass Equal-Channel Angular Extrusion

open access: yesMetals, 2017
Based on electron backscattered diffraction analysis and transmission electron microscopy observation, the mechanism of inhomogeneous grain refinement in a NiTiFe shape memory alloy (SMA) subjected to single-pass equal-channel angular extrusion (ECAE ...

Analysis of the Effect of Simultaneous Melt Shearing and Cooling on Grain Formation and Rheology of A356 Aluminum Alloy

open access: yesCrystals, 2023
Despite the dozens of earlier research verifications, the contribution of shearing of molten metallic alloys during their solidification to grain formation is still ambiguous.

GRAIN REFINEMENT OF URANIUM BY ALLOYING [PDF]

open access: yes, 1951
Binary alloys of uranium with 38 elements in the range 0.01 to 1.0 at.% were made. Three alloys havirg nominal compositions of 0.01, 0.1, and 1.0 at.% were made with most of the elements, and in addition, 12 ternary and quaternary alloys were made. The alloys were cast, rolled to 7/8-inch-diameter bars, heat treated, and examined for grain size. (auth)

Refined Vision-Language Modeling for Fine-grained Multi-modal Pre-training [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
Fine-grained supervision based on object annotations has been widely used for vision and language pre-training (VLP). However, in real-world application scenarios, aligned multi-modal data is usually in the image-caption format, which only provides coarse-grained supervision.

Investigation of Ti1−x(Zr,Ta,V,W)xB2 and Al3Ti1−x(Zr,V)x grain refiners in additively manufactured Al-2 wt%Cu alloys by a high throughput method

open access: yesMaterials & Design, 2022
Grain refinement plays a central role in powder bed fusion (PBF) additive manufacturing by preventing hot cracking and thus enabling the development of high-strength alloys.

Thermomechanical Grain Refinement in AA6082-T6 Thin Plates under Bobbin Friction Stir Welding

open access: yesMetals, 2018
Bobbin friction stir welding (BFSW), with its fully penetrated pin and double-sided shoulder, can provide high rates of heat generation. This produces solid-state thermo-mechanical grain refinement.

A simple and efficient model for mesoscale solidification simulation of globular grain structures [PDF]

open access: yesActa Materialia, Volume 55, Issue 5, March 2007, Pages 1703-1710, 2007
A simple model for the solidification of globular grains in metallic alloys is presented. Based on the Voronoi diagram of the nuclei centers, it accounts for the curvature of the grains near triple junctions. The predictions of this model are close to those of more refined approaches such as the phase field method, but with a computation cost decreased
