Residual effect of straw biochar on grain yield and yield attributes in a double rice cropping system of subtropical China

open access: yesPlant, Soil and Environment, 2022
Biochar is considered as a soil amendment for enhancing crop productivity. However, limited information is available on the residual effect of biochar application on rice grain yield and yield attributes.

Genetic analysis of grain weight in wheat [PDF]

open access: yesHeredity, 1986
The reciprocal monosomic analysis (RMA) technique of intervarietal chromosome manipulation was used to investigate the genetic control of grain weight in two varieties of wheat (Spica and Chinese Spring). The method enabled major genetic differences between the two varieties for this quantitative character to be assigned to individual chromosomes.

Incredible Role of Osmotic Adjustment in Grain Yield Sustainability under Water Scarcity Conditions in Wheat (Triticum aestivum L.)

open access: yesPlants, 2020
Interrogations of local germplasm and landraces can offer a foundation and genetic basis for drought tolerance in wheat. Potential of drought tolerance in a panel of 30 wheat genotypes including varieties, local landraces, and wild crosses were explored ...

Genetic dissection of grain traits and their corresponding heterosis in an elite hybrid

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2022
Rice productivity has considerably improved due to the effective employment of heterosis, but the genetic basis of heterosis for grain shape and weight remains uncertain.

Effects of organic and microbiological fertilizers on morphological and productive characteristics of triticale in the organic farming system [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Agricultural Sciences (Belgrade), 2022
The aim of the study was to examine the impact of microbiological and organic fertilizers on morphological and productive characteristics of triticale during a three-year period (2009/10-2011/12).

Overcoming the trade‐off between grain weight and number in wheat by the ectopic expression of expansin in developing seeds leads to increased yield potential

open access: yesNew Phytologist, 2020
Summary Wheat is the most widely grown crop globally, providing 20% of all human calories and protein. Achieving step changes in genetic yield potential is crucial to ensure food security, but efforts are thwarted by an apparent trade‐off between grain ...

Effects of replacing different proportions of barley grain by barley fibre on performance of dairy bulls [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
The objective of the present experiment was to study the effects of partial replacement of barley grain with barley fibre (BF) on animal performance, carcass traits and diet digestibility of growing dairy bulls.

The Role of Whole Grains in Body Weight Regulation [PDF]

open access: yesAdvances in Nutrition, 2012
Whole grain (WG)-rich diets are purported to have a variety of health benefits, including a favorable role in body weight regulation. Current dietary recommendations advocate substituting WG for refined grains (RG), because many of the beneficial bioactive components intrinsic to WG are lost during the refining process.

Reinvestigation of THOUSAND-GRAIN WEIGHT 6 grain weight genes in wheat and rice indicates a role in pollen development rather than regulation of auxin content in grains [PDF]

open access: yesTheoretical and Applied Genetics, 2021
Phylogenetic and expression analyses of grain weight genes TaTGW6 and OsTGW6 and investigation of substrate availability indicate TGW6 does not regulate auxin content of grains but may affect pollen development. The THOUSAND-GRAIN WEIGHT 6 genes (TaTGW6 and OsTGW6) are reported to result in larger grains of wheat and rice by reducing production of ...

Optimal Plant Density Improves Sweet Maize Fresh Ear Yield without Compromising Grain Carbohydrate Concentration

open access: yesAgronomy, 2023
It is crucial to synergistically improve the yield and quality of sweet maize by implementing precise and strategic planting methods. However, a comprehensive understanding of how increasing plant density affects the sweet maize fresh ear yield, grain ...
