Physicochemical properties, fermentative profile, microbiological quality, and pathogen contamination of baled silage during long‐term storage

open access: yesJournal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, EarlyView.
Abstract BACKGROUND Baled silage is expanding in Mediterranean regions due to climate change and demand for high‐quality forage; therefore, evaluating the effects of long‐term storage on microbiological and fermentative quality is essential. RESULTS In this study, 115 baled silages were sampled from different farms at 30, 60, 90, 180, and 270 days ...

Synovial interleukin‐6 point‐of‐care testing, alone and combined with D‐dimer, supports rapid diagnosis of periprosthetic joint infection

open access: yesKnee Surgery, Sports Traumatology, Arthroscopy, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose Data on the reliability of point‐of‐care (POC) tests for the rapid diagnosis of periprosthetic joint infections (PJI) using synovial fluid (SF) D‐dimer (DD), interleukin 6 (IL‐6) and procalcitonin (PCT) are limited. This study aimed to address this issue by evaluating the diagnostic accuracy of POC tests for SF DD, IL‐6 and PCT in ...

Patients with obesity have a higher risk of periprosthetic joint infection and more frequent polymicrobial infections after knee arthroplasty: A nationwide register‐based study from Denmark

open access: yesKnee Surgery, Sports Traumatology, Arthroscopy, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose To compare the 2‐year incidence of (1) revision due to periprosthetic joint infection (PJI) and (2) all‐cause revision after primary knee arthroplasty (KA) in patients with/without obesity and to compare the microbial profiles in early (≤ 90 days) and late (91–730 days) PJI.

Laparoscopic Methylene Blue Photodynamic Therapy for Intraabdominal Infection: A Preclinical Feasibility Study in a Rabbit Model of Perforated Appendicitis

open access: yesLasers in Surgery and Medicine, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objectives Perforated appendicitis commonly results in intra‐abdominal infection requiring prolonged antibiotic therapy. Intraoperative antimicrobial adjuncts are limited, and photodynamic therapy (PDT) may provide a targeted, resistance‐independent approach.

Harnessing microbial power to degrade hydrocarbon‐based plastics

open access: yesmLife, EarlyView.
Abstract The growing global plastic waste crisis demands the development of urgent, effective, and sustainable solutions. While conventional recycling methods present intrinsic limitations, microbial biodegradation of plastic waste has emerged as a promising alternative.

Biosurfactant production by Pseudomonas aeruginosa isolated from mining waste: From genomic analysis to development of a polymeric composite for removal of hexavalent chromium

open access: yesPolymer International, EarlyView.
Biosurfactant was produced by Pseudomonas aeruginosa using andiroba waste from Amazonia. A biosurfactant–alginate composite (Alg/BioS) was successfully synthesized via ionotropic gelation, and achieved up to 70% Cr6+ removal from water. Abstract Environmental contamination by heavy metals represents a significant challenge due to their persistence in ...

[Infections caused by gram negative anaerobic bacteria and other associated bacterial strains].

open access: yesRevista de gastroenterologia de Mexico, 1980
Between November 1975--December 1977, in the Laboratory of Microbiology, National Institute of Nutrition, Mexico, 156 cultures for anaerobic bacteria were grown on 118 cases with a clinical picture suggestive of anaerobic infection. There were 42 positive cultures (26.9%) from which 18 (42.8%) grew a mixed flora (aerobicanaerobic).
