Growth of a population of bacteria in a dynamical hostile environment [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2010
We study the growth of a population of bacteria in a dynamical hostile environment corresponding to the immune system of the colonised organism. The immune cells evolve as subcritical open clusters of oriented percolation and are perpetually reinforced by an immigration process, while the bacteria try to grow as a supercritical oriented percolation in ...

In Vitro Antibacterial Properties of Cefiderocol, a Novel Siderophore Cephalosporin, against Gram-Negative Bacteria

open access: yesAntimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy, 2017
Cefiderocol (CFDC; S-649266), a novel parenteral siderophore cephalosporin conjugated with a catechol moiety, has a characteristic antibacterial spectrum with a potent activity against a broad range of aerobic Gram-negative bacterial species, including ...

Micro‐ and Nano‐Bots for Infection Control

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This review presents a strategic vision for integrating micro‐ and nanobots in the pipeline for infection diagnosis, prevention, and treatment. To develop these robots as a practical solution for infection management, their design principles are clarified based on their propulsion mechanisms and then categorized infection management domains based on ...

Widespread Fosfomycin Resistance in Gram-Negative Bacteria Attributable to the Chromosomal fosA Gene

open access: yesmBio, 2017
Fosfomycin is a decades-old antibiotic which is being revisited because of its perceived activity against many extensively drug-resistant Gram-negative pathogens.

Advancements in Carbon‐Based Piezoelectric Materials: Mechanism, Classification, and Applications in Energy Science

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Carbon‐based piezoelectric materials are systematically categorized based on their structural and functional properties. The mechanisms of stress‐induced charge transfer are elucidated, and their applications are explored across three key domains: piezoelectric catalysis for energy conversion and environmental remediation, piezoelectric biomedical ...

Bacteria inspired patterns grown with hyperbolic cellular automata [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2010
In this paper we give three examples of expending patterns defined by hyperbolic cellular automata whose growth seems to be very similar to the growth of colonies of bacteria.

Engineering CRISPR System‐Based Bacterial Outer Membrane Vesicle Potentiates T Cell Immunity for Enhanced Cancer Immunotherapy

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This study develops a multifunctional CRISPR‐dCas9‐based OMV platform termed OMV‐C9I12, which facilitates the coexpression of CXCL9 and IL‐12 within tumor cells. This platform enhances T cell recruitment and activation, synergizes with anti‐PD‐1/PD‐L1 immunotherapy, and amplifies antitumor T cell immunity.
