Use of Quinolones for the Treatment of Osteomyelitis and Septic Arthritis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The low minimal inhibitory concentrations and minimal bactericidal concentrations of the quinolones for most pathogenic gram-negative and many gram-positive organisms, the ease of their administration, and their good oral absorption make them good ...

An update on environmental mastitis: challenging perceptions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Environmental mastitis is the most common and costly form of mastitis in modern dairy herds where contagious transmission of intramammary pathogens is controlled through implementation of standard mastitis prevention programmes.

Enhanced Infection Resistance and Regenerative Healing of Titanium Implants via Peptide‐Loaded Biodegradable Coatings

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
This study presents a new biodegradable coating for titanium implants using a natural antimicrobial peptide, caerin 1.9. Applied via solvent casting, the coating offers sustained antibacterial protection and promotes healing. Tested on 3D‐printed porous titanium scaffolds, it effectively prevented infection—including against resistant bacteria—while ...

Phage Therapy in Treatment of Gram-negative Bacterial Infections: A Systematic Review

open access: yesJournal of Mazandaran University of Medical Sciences, 2018
Background and purpose: Infections caused by multidrug-resistant gram-negative bacteria are rising. Phage therapy is an effective treatment in infections resistant to treatment and progress has been made with its use and development in recent years ...

Controversies in the Use of Passive Immunotherapy for Bacterial Infections in the Critically Ill Patient [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Several preparations of standard immunoglobulins for intravenous use have been tested as adjunctive therapy for bacterial infections in premature neonates and in critically ill adults after major surgery, trauma, and burn.

Tailoring Vascular‐Immune Homeostasis via Manganese‐DNA Complex‐Armed Immunogenic Extracellular Vesicles for Pancreatic Cancer Immunotherapy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates that Mn2⁺–tumor DNA complexes encapsulated in dendritic cell (DC)– derived immunogenic extracellular vesicles (EVDC@Mn‐DNA) act as a DC‐specific cGAS– STING activator. EVDC@Mn‐DNA treatment enhances intratumoral DC activation, improves tumor vascular function, promotes CD8⁺ T cell activity, and suppresses pancreatic tumor growth,

A Bifunctional T3SS‐Effector Simultaneously Cleaves Host MAP Kinase and Inhibits PPM1A Phosphatase

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Pathogenic bacteria exploit the metalloprotease effector NleD to subvert host defenses. Structural, biochemical, and infection analyses reveal a bifunctional mechanism by which NleD binds and inhibits the host phosphatase PPM1A while preserving its proteolytic activity against MAPKs.

Prevalence and Antimicrobial Susceptibility Patterns of Bacterial Pathogens in Urinary Tract Infections in University Hospital of Campania “Luigi Vanvitelli” between 2017 and 2018

open access: yesAntibiotics, 2020
Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are the most common and expensive health problem globally. The treatment of UTIs is difficult owing to the onset of antibiotic-resistant bacterial strains.
