Assessment of the pattern of antibiotic resistance among microorganisms isolated from the culture medium prepared from hospitalized patients: A retrospective study

open access: yesJournal of Family Medicine and Primary Care
Background: Antibiotic resistance has become quite a challenge in the treatment of bacterial infections in the world. Therefore, the present study was conducted with the aim of investigating the pattern of antibiotic resistance among microorganisms ...

Anti-bacterial activity of lysozyme in pitching yeast and effect of lysozyme on yeast fermentation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Lysozyme has antibacterial activity against Gram-positive bacteria and has no activity against yeast. As such, lysozyme can be used for the specific inhibition of beer spoilage bacteria.

Microbial community dynamics during composting of sewage sludge and straw studied through phospholipid and neutral lipid analysis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The composting process involves a succession of different communities of microorganisms that decompose the initial material, transforming it into a stable final product. In thiswork, the levels of phospholipid fatty acid (PLFA), neutral lipid fatty acid (

Brucella NyxA and NyxB dimerization enhances effector function during infection

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Brucella abortus thrives inside cells thanks to the translocation of effector proteins that fine‐tune cellular functions. NyxA and NyxB are two effectors that destabilize the nucleolar localization of their host target, SENP3. We show that the Nyx proteins directly interact with each other and that their dimerization is essential for their function ...

Breakthrough Solution for Antimicrobial Resistance Detection: Surface‐Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy‐based on Artificial Intelligence

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView., 2023
This review discusses the use of Surface‐Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy (SERS) combined with Artificial Intelligence (AI) for detecting antimicrobial resistance (AMR). Various SERS studies used with AI techniques, including machine learning and deep learning, are analyzed for their advantages and limitations.

Comparative study of adenosine 3′‐pyrophosphokinase domains of MuF polymorphic toxins

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
With the ultimate goal of understanding the association of toxin‐immunity modules to temperate phages, we characterized toxins from three prophages and examined cross‐protection from immunity proteins. The toxins exhibit adenosine 3′‐pyrophosphokinase activity and are toxic in Escherichia coli.

Synthesis and evaluation of halogenated nitrophenoxazinones as nitroreductase substrates for the detection of pathogenic bacteria [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The synthesis and microbiological evaluation of 7-, 8- and 9-nitro-1,2,4-trihalogenophenoxazin-3-one substrates with potential in the detection of nitroreductase-expressing pathogenic microorganisms are described.

Protein O‐glycosylation in the Bacteroidota phylum

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Species of the Bacteroidota phylum exhibit a unique O‐glycosylation system. It modifies noncytoplasmic proteins on a specific amino acid motif with a shared glycan core but a species‐specific outer glycan. A locus of multiple glycosyltransferases responsible for the synthesis of the outer glycan has been identified.
