Critical adsorption and critical Casimir forces in the canonical ensemble

open access: yes, 2016
Critical properties of a liquid film between two planar walls are investigated in the canonical ensemble, within which the total number of fluid particles, rather than their chemical potential, is kept constant.

Scalable Engineering of Bio‐Manufactured Extracellular Vesicles for Selective Delivery in Ovarian Cancer Patient‐Derived Models

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Engineered extracellular vesicles displaying Ephrin‐B2 selectively target Ephrin‐B4–expressing ovarian cancer cells, enabling precise delivery in patient‐derived models. This scalable bio‐manufacturing platform reveals a versatile strategy to exploit Ephrin signaling for highly specific therapeutic payload delivery and motivates exploration of tailored

Unraveling the Power of Disorder: A Bioinspired Cuttlebone Structure With Superior Strength, Energy Absorption and Isotropy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Cuttlebone‐inspired architected metamaterials introduce controlled structural disorder to simultaneously enhance strength, energy absorption, and compressive stability. Tunable disorder suppresses shear anisotropy, outperforms periodic lattices, and establishes discrete randomness as a robust route to high‐performance lightweight mechanical ...

DMS‐MaPseq and DREEM Analyses Implicate the Critical Role of RNA Structural Dynamics in Turnip Yellow Mosaic Virus Pathogenicity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
RNA structural profiling of Turnip Yellow Mosaic Virus by DMS‐MaPseq and DREEM analyses uncover that viral genome‐wide RSS is highly complicated and heterogeneous, with alternative RSSs widely distributed across the genome. Notably, the viral 3’ tRNA‐like structure adopts alternative conformations in vivo.

Grand-Canonical Approach to Density Functional Theory of Electrocatalytic Systems: Thermodynamics of Solid-Liquid Interfaces at Constant Ion and Electrode Potentials

open access: yes, 2018
Properties of solid-liquid interfaces are of immense importance for electrocatalytic and electrochemical systems but modelling such interfaces at the atomic level presents a serious challenge and approaches beyond standard methodologies are needed.

The droplet formation-dissolution transition in different ensembles: Finite-size scaling from two perspectives

open access: yesSciPost Physics, 2018
The formation and dissolution of a droplet is an important mechanism related to various nucleation phenomena. Here, we address the droplet formation-dissolution transition in a two-dimensional Lennard-Jones gas to demonstrate a consistent finite-size ...

Lactoferrin Deficiency During Lactation Causes Adult Obesity‐Related Metabolic Disease Through Persistent Adipose Dysfunction Driven by Impaired Adipocyte Development

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Lactational lactoferrin deficiency exerts lasting effects on epididymal adipose tissue development from lactation into adulthood: it impairs adipocyte hyperplasia and induces pathological hypertrophy, resulting in lower body weight yet exacerbated metabolic dysfunction under a high‐fat diet in adulthood.

Bubbles and black branes in the grand canonical ensemble

open access: yesPhysical Review D, 2012
When the phase structure of the black brane in grand canonical ensemble is discussed, a new bubble phase with the same boundary data is found to exist in this structure. As such, the phase transitions among bubble, black brane and "hot flat space" are possible, therefore giving a much enriched phase structure.

Persistent current of one-dimensional perfect rings under the canonical ensemble [PDF]

open access: yes, 1996
We have analyzed the harmonic contents of the persistent current at high temperatures under the canonical ensemble. Results show that the behavior of each harmonic is different from that under the grand-canonical ensemble.

Topology‐Aware Deep Learning on Higher‐Order Structures for Drug Response Prediction

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We present TopDr, a topology‐aware deep learning framework that encodes both drugs and cell lines as multiscale simplicial complexes, capturing interactions at the 0‐, 1‐, and 2‐simplex levels. By jointly integrating local higher‐order neighborhoods and global topological structures, TopDr generates enriched representations for sensitivity prediction ...
