A Bounding Surface for Granular Materials

open access: yesSoils and Foundations, 1987
ABSTRACT A laboratory investigation has been carried out into initial anisotropy and into the effects of continuous principal stress rotation on the undrained behaviour of two granular materials : a natural angular to sub-angular sand and glass ballotini, which comprises spherical grains.

Contact forces distribution for a granular material from a Monte Carlo study on a single grain

open access: yes, 2017
11 páginasThe force network ensemble is one of the most promising statistical descriptions of granular media, with an entropy accounting for all force configurations at mechanical equilibrium consistent with some external stress.

In vitro and in silico modelling of ROS1‐positive non‐small cell lung cancer reveals fusion‐dependent tyrosine kinase inhibitor responses

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Drug resistance limits treatment success in a subset of lung cancers driven by ROS1 gene alterations. Using patient‐derived cells and computer simulations, we studied three key mutations and how they affect five targeted drugs. The mutations reduced drug effectiveness in different ways by altering protein structure and behavior.

Multiple shear bands in granular materials

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2017
The transition regime from quasi-static to dynamic shear regime is studied by discrete element method (DEM) and by means of a mesoscopic model. We show that at moderate shear rate multiple shear bands appear which eventually appear as a continuous shear ...

The Experimental Stress – Strain Rate Relationship of Granular Materials [Translated]†

open access: yesKONA Powder and Particle Journal, 2014
The flow of granular materials is important in the field of material handling. However, there are many unknown factors associated with the analysis of these flows.

The Shear Strength of Granular Materials with Dispersed and Non-Dispersed Oversized Particles [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Soils containing dispersed and non-dispersed large particles (greater than # 4 sieve) form part of many engineered fills, glacial tills, debris flows, and residual soil deposits.

Spreading of viscous fluids and granular materials on slopes

open access: yes, 2010
Materials can flow down a slope in a wide range of geophysical and industrial contexts, including lava flows on volcanoes and thin films on coated surfaces.

Morse theory-based segmentation and fabric quantification of granular materials

open access: yes, 2022
This article presents a robust Morse theory-based framework for segmenting 3D X-ray computed tomography image (CT) and computing the fabric, relative arrangement of particles, of granular ensembles.

Screening and epitope characterization of Nidogen‐2‐specific nanobodies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Camel immunization and phage display were employed to generate high‐affinity VHH nanobodies against Nidogen‐2. After library construction, biopanning, ELISA screening, sequencing, and recombinant expression, selected nanobodies were purified and characterized, leading to the preliminary exploration of a nanobody‐based sandwich ELISA for specific ...

Percolating contacts network and force chains during interface shear in granular media [PDF]

open access: yes, 2023
The concept of force chains transmitting stress through granular materials is well established; however identification of individual force chains and the associated quantitative analysis is non-trivial.
