Granularity in reciprocity [PDF]

open access: yesAI & SOCIETY, 2011
Witnessing in merging biological, social and algorithmic realities is crucial to trust, as modelled in the YUTPA framework. Being witness and bearing witness is fundamental to human interaction. System participation in human communities of practice challenges the notion of witnessing and therefore the ability to build trust. Nevertheless, through trial

A New Compressional Wave Speed Inversion Method Based on Granularity Parameters

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2019
How to improve the prediction accuracy of compressional wave speed has always been one of the basic research subjects in geoacoustics study field. Due to the stability of granularity, whether in the laboratory or in the seabed environment, the regression

(Neg)Entropic Scenarios Affecting the Wicked Design Spaces of Knowledge Management Systems

open access: yesEntropy, 2020
The envisioned embracing of thriving knowledge societies is increasingly compromised by threatening perceptions of information overload, attention poverty, opportunity divides, and career fears.

Granularity Problems [PDF]

open access: yesThe Philosophical Quarterly, 2016
Possible-worlds accounts of mental or linguistic content are often criticized for being too coarse-grained. To make room for more fine-grained distinctions among contents, several authors have recently proposed extending the space of possible worlds by ‘impossible worlds’.

Interpreting the effects of DNA polymerase variants at the structural level

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Using MAVISp and molecular dynamics simulations, we analyzed over 60 000 missense variants in POLE and POLD1 from ClinVar, COSMIC, cBioPortal, and saturation mutagenesis. Identified mechanistic indicators, including stability, binding, and long‐range, enable structural interpretation, providing ACMG‐like evidence for possible reclassification of VUS ...

On Label Granularity and Object Localization [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
Weakly supervised object localization (WSOL) aims to learn representations that encode object location using only image-level category labels. However, many objects can be labeled at different levels of granularity.

In vitro and in silico modelling of ROS1‐positive non‐small cell lung cancer reveals fusion‐dependent tyrosine kinase inhibitor responses

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Drug resistance limits treatment success in a subset of lung cancers driven by ROS1 gene alterations. Using patient‐derived cells and computer simulations, we studied three key mutations and how they affect five targeted drugs. The mutations reduced drug effectiveness in different ways by altering protein structure and behavior.

Deriving polarity from granularity

open access: yes, 2021
In this paper, we present a way to unify Positive Polarity Items formed with some NP and minimizers, such as lift a finger. The connection is made via granularity properties of the two classes of polarity sensitive expressions.

Effect of the Cement-to-Water Ratio and Fractal Granular Model on the Prediction of Concretes Compressive Strength

open access: yesInternational Journal of Concrete Structures and Materials, 2022
The main objective of this work was to highlight the contribution of cement-to-water $$\mathrm{C}/\mathrm{W}$$ C / W ratio and the fractal dimension $$\mathrm{FD}$$ FD model to the prediction of the compressive strength of concrete.

Clustering Algorithm Reveals Dopamine‐Motor Mismatch in Cognitively Preserved Parkinson's Disease

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To explore the relationship between dopaminergic denervation and motor impairment in two de novo Parkinson's disease (PD) cohorts. Methods n = 249 PD patients from Parkinson's Progression Markers Initiative (PPMI) and n = 84 from an external clinical cohort.
