Sampling for Socially‐Inclusive Adoption Studies (SSAS): A new interdisciplinary sampling method for DNA‐fingerprinting‐based crop varietal adoption studies

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
DNA fingerprinting is becoming the standard measurement procedure in crop adoption studies in the Global South, yet the lack of systematic and intentional sampling regarding which farmer to go to the plot with may bias results from these methods. We introduce a methodological innovation, Sampling for Socially Inclusive Adoption Studies (SSAS), to offer

Grape (Vitis L.) biodiversity: Historical uses, current status, and future potential

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
Grapes (Vitis L. ‐ Vitaceae) are among the most important fruit crops globally, consumed in the form of wine, fresh fruit, raisins, and in many products. Complex and fascinating biocultural processes underpin the crop, with a remarkable assemblage of species comprising grapevines and with heterogeneous viticultural practices and rapidly advancing new ...

Conservation gap analysis for wild grapevines (Vitis L.) of the Americas

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
Wild grapevines (Vitis L.) native to the Americas are ecologically and culturally important plants that are also critical to the global cultivated grape industry as sources of traits for crop innovation, but many of these species are poorly documented and insufficiently conserved.

Synergistic benefits of agrivoltaics for grape production and solar energy efficiency in a Mediterranean vineyard

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
Grapevine production is increasingly challenged by global warming, with global wine output falling to a six‐decade low in 2024. At the same time, the vine and wine sector faces growing pressure to reduce its carbon footprint. Agrivoltaics, which integrates solar photovoltaic (PV) modules into plant production systems, offers a potential pathway to ...

Accidental plant poisonings in France: Lessons from a decade of national toxicovigilance

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
Accidental plant poisonings reveal how modern societies are losing everyday botanical knowledge once central to food and health safety. By analyzing a decade of French toxicovigilance data, this study shows that most severe cases arise from plant misidentification or misguided self‐medication.
