Understanding Visualization: A formal approach using category theory and semiotics [PDF]
This article combines the vocabulary of semiotics and category theory to provide a formal analysis of visualization. It shows how familiar processes of visualization fit the semiotic frameworks of both Saussure and Peirce, and extends these structures ...

Enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC) infects the human intestinal epithelium, resulting in severe illness and diarrhoea. In this study, we compared the infection of cancer‐derived cell lines with human organoid‐derived models of the small intestine. We observed a delayed in attachment, inflammation and cell death on primary cells, indicating that host ...

Visualization methods for metric studies [PDF]
Metric studies are based on complex, voluminous and heterogeneous data. In order to obtain meaningful results, human guided analysis is therefore needed and can be achieved with information visualization methods.

Graph Drawing Techniques for Geographic Visualization [PDF]
Geovisualizers often need to represent data that consists of items related together. Such data sets can be abstracted to a mathematical structure, the graph.

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

An Information-Theoretic Framework for Evaluating Edge Bundling Visualization
Edge bundling is a promising graph visualization approach to simplifying the visual result of a graph drawing. Plenty of edge bundling methods have been developed to generate diverse graph layouts.

Demonstration of a Preprocessor for the Spring Embedder [PDF]
Spring embedding is a widely used method for producing automated layouts of graphs. We present a preprocessor that improves the performance of the classical spring embedder which can be used in conjunction with other optimization and approximation ...

An isoform of 14‐3‐3 protein regulates transbilayer lipid movement at the plasma membrane
Loss of 14‐3‐3ζ in CHO cells confers resistance to exogenous phosphatidylserine (PS) and impairs endocytosis‐independent inward flip‐flop of fluorescent PS at the plasma membrane. RNAi‐mediated knockdown reproduces this defect, while no additive effect is seen in ATP11C‐deficient cells.

Navigation and Interaction in Graph Visualizations
Graphs are widely utilized in many fields and several applications require their visualization. Graph visualization is based on techniques for graph drawing, interaction and navigation in such a way that helps the user in finding and manipulating information efficiently.

Biophysical approaches for studying viral entry
Viruses infect all living organisms and have been responsible for major epidemics and pandemics. Their ongoing evolutionary battle with host defenses creates a constant need for improved tools to study viral behavior. Advancing methods to probe viral attachment, fusion, and genome release deepen our understanding of how infections begin and support the
