Morphology of Flake, Ductile and Compacted Graphite

JOM, 1986
A review with 43 references on factors controlling the formation of flake, spheroidal, and compacted graphite in cast iron. Graphite nucleation, growth, and morphology are important in detecting the physical and mechanical properties of cast iron.

Graphite Morphology Control in Cast Iron

MRS Proceedings, 1984
ABSTRACTGraphite morphology in cast iron is analyzed in terms of the growth kinetics of graphite crystals in liquid iron. At small driving forces, i.e., low supersaturation or small kinetic undercooling, graphite growth is characterized by faceted growth, resulting in flake, compacted and spherulitic graphite morphologies.

The morphology of some natural and synthetic graphites

Carbon, 1988
Abstract The morphologies of seven different types of graphite, both natural and synthetic, have been examined using a scanning electron microscope (SEM). The surfaces are not smooth but were found to exhibit structural detail over the entire range of magnification used.

Fracture Morphology of Graphite/ Epoxy Composites

Journal of Composite Materials, 1983
The delamination failure planes of graphite/epoxy composites that failed in three- point bending fatigue were examined microscopically to identify and relate fracture surface morphology to the composite microstructure and the applied loading condi tions.

Confocal microscope observation of graphite morphology

International Journal of Cast Metals Research, 1999
New microscopical techniques allow to observe different tomographic sections of flake, compact and spheroidal graphite, and confirms some of the theories of growth mechanisms and rejects some other...

Influence of Ti on Graphite Morphological Transition in Flake Graphite Cast Iron

Key Engineering Materials, 2010
The morphological transition from the A-type to D-type graphite (undercooled graphite) in cast iron has been studied using Fe-3.5%C-2.0%Si-0/0.1%Ti samples. The samples were prepared using a high frequency induction furnace flowing Ar atmosphere using 0.25% steel rods with or without Ti addition.

Size oriented morphological properties of expanded graphite

2020 IEEE ANDESCON, 2020
Expanded graphite’s (EG) high surface pore structure makes it versatile for numerous applications. Even for some of them a specific particle size range is necessary, such as bipolar plate composite materials for polymer electrolyte fuel cells. This article adopted the microwave expansion method to obtain EG and then classified the produced samples by ...

Influence of graphite morphology on dry sliding wear of flake graphite cast irons

International Journal of Cast Metals Research, 2008
AbstractFour flaky graphite cast irons of different graphite structures with a pearlitic matrix were prepared to clarify the graphite structure's influence on the dry sliding wear property. Two melts of cast iron with different carbon contents were solidified at two different cooling rates. The four resultant samples had type A flaky graphite or type D

Austenite dendrite morphology in lamellar graphite iron

International Journal of Cast Metals Research, 2015
Primary austenite has been underestimated in general when the theories of nucleation, solidification, microstructure formation and mechanical properties were established for cast iron and particularly for lamellar cast iron. The present work aims to investigate the primary austenite morphology of as cast samples of a hypoeutectic lamellar cast iron ...
