Observation of Horizontal Gravity Wave Activity in the Upper Stratosphere Using Monostatic Rayleigh Lidar

open access: yesAtmosphere
The prediction accuracy of the General Circulation Model (GCM) is influenced by the effectiveness of gravity wave activity parameterization. Although research focuses on small-scale horizontal gravity wave activity as a carrier for energy and momentum ...

Saturation of the inverse cascade in surface gravity-wave turbulence

open access: yes, 2020
International audienceWe report on the observation of surface gravity-wave turbulence at scales larger than the forcing ones in a large basin. In addition to the downscale transfer usually reported in gravity-wave turbulence, an upscale transfer is ...

W‐N‐C Tandem Catalytic Centers Mediating Efficient Charge Transfer for the Enhanced Radical‐Path U(VI) Photoreduction

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This work constructed a tandem W−N−C center to simultaneously achieve the regulation of reaction pathways and optimization of charge separation efficiency. The Lewis‐acidic W6+ sites activated O2 to generate O2−$O_2^ - $, with enhanced charge separation via electronic modulation, steering U(VI) reduction down an efficient radical pathway.

The propagation of mountain waves into the stratosphere: Quantitative evaluation of three-dimensional simulations

open access: yes, 2000
On 6 January 1992 measurements of a mountain wave with significant amplitude were taken over the southern tip of Greenland during an ER-2 flight at an altitude of about 20 km.

Wave turbulence on the surface of a fluid in a high-gravity environment [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
International audienceWe report on the observation of gravity-capillary wave turbulence on the surface of a fluid in a high-gravity environment. By using a large-diameter centrifuge, the effective gravity acceleration is tuned up to 20 times the Earth ...

An Embodied Paper‐Based Microfluidic Al‐Air Battery for Enduring Untethered Insect‐Scale Robots

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This work presents a centimeter‐scale microfluidic aluminum–air battery (MFAAB) with dual‐surface anode and F−‐mediated byproduct decomposition. The design enables a high capacity of 2697.05 mAh/g Al and delivers tens of milliwatts to power LEDs, motors, and a toy car.

Middle Atmospheric Doppler Rayleigh Winds, Temperatures, and Gravity Waves at Kühlungsborn and ALOMAR [PDF]

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences
We demonstrate the capability of the Doppler Rayleigh lidars at Kühlungsborn and ALOMAR to accurately measure temperature and horizontal wind in the stratosphere and mesosphere. Comparisons are shown with radar, satellite and ECMWF.

Gravity instabilities in the Dohrn canyon (Bay of Naples, Southern Tyrrhenian sea): potential wave and run-up (tsunami) reconstruction from a fossil submarine landslide [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
We discuss a mathematical model for wave and run-up generated submarine landslides in the canyons of the Bay of Naples (Magnaghi-Dohrn canyon system).

A Data‐Driven Inverse Design Methodology for Magnetic Soft Millirobots Navigating in Confined Spaces

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A data‐efficient inverse design framework automates the optimization of magnetic soft millirobots for confined‐space navigation. Integrating a physics‐based Cosserat rod model with Bayesian optimization efficiently identifies high‐performance geometries.

Unidirectional Evaporation‐Induced Tunable and Continuous Gradient Composite Structure for Absorption‐Dominant Electromagnetic Interference Shielding

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A continuous conductivity gradient is formed in a porous MXene/melamine foam via directional evaporation, thereby improving impedance matching and enhancing electromagnetic attenuation. The resulting monolithic composite delivers absorption‐dominant EMI shielding with ultralow reflection, offering a simple route toward lightweight EMI shielding ...
